I Have a strange feeling that Louisa is going to beat Sherando Friday night. What does everyone else think?
First game of the season. Anything is possible and the Lions have a few real horses that can pound the ball. Difficult to see any team not wear down after taking some 250'+ guys that can motor all night. If Louisa doesn't get fancy and keeps pounding the rock, they can win. But they have to play defense too. We'll see. Really interesting matchup here. Very good question. Lot's of special week one games on the agenda. Wish I could see them all but I'll be watching the numbers while streaming Dinwiddie/JM.I Have a strange feeling that Louisa is going to beat Sherando Friday night. What does everyone else think?
Louisa should put up more points this year, but the big question mark will be defense. If that has improved they will be tough every week and make a good run in the playoffs.I'd be hesitant to call Louisa beating Sherando a big upset purely because there are a lot of questions around both teams, but that's a matter of opinion. I'd completely agree with you if Sherando had made it a round or two further in the playoffs last year. Louisa has a great program and great programs rarely have long down periods.
If Sherando wins by a score resembling last year's 35-7 victory I'd say they'd have a great shot at beating Martinsburg and Fort Hill, but I don't think anyone on Louisa's schedule will put up those kinds of numbers against them this year. A lot of those 35 points came from costly mistakes on Louisa's part, and I don't think they'll be making those mistakes again this year.
If Salem loses at all this year in the regular season, it'll be to the Lancers this weekend. As good a program as Amherst has, this would be the definitive upset of the week for me even if most of the other favorites lost. As of now, I don't think Salem loses to anyone this year.

I still have nightmares of Zac Hill to the right, middle, and left all night. We held #25 RB basically in check, but couldn't stop Hill from gaining about 8 ypc from the QB spot. Fox had about 15 ypc, but that just gave them the ball quicker and their keep away scheme worked to perfection. Their lines are a strong point and ours are inexperienced this year. Legitimate concerns with William Byrd.Having seen both scrimmages, I think I'm more concerned about William Byrd than I am Amherst at this point. Byrd's Larry Basham is the best back off either of those teams, and Byrd is probably - IMHO, of course - better coached. If Coach Highfill finds just one play they can run, or one weakness to exploit for a guaranteed three yards - then that's what the Terriers will do. All...night...long, Lionel Ritchie-style. We saw it just a few years ago. Even if that were the case, one would think Salem should be able to outscore Byrd. But again - three years ago, that was also true, and Byrd danced home with a 30-29 win.
I'm not predicting Salem losses in either of those games, at this point. I'm just not taking anything for granted. And I know the coaches won't be.
[Okay, okay - truth be told, there are a few games that I, as a fan, might be taking for granted. But I'll decline naming them.]
