Henrico vs Glen Allen

Henrico point guard Timon Jones (5-foot-10) was the Player of the Game leading Henrico to a win over Glen Allen. Jones converted a 3-point play in the final three seconds on his way to a game-high 25 points. Jones also made two clutch free throws down the stretch while converting 8 of 12 field goals and 7 of 8 free throws. He was able to pressure the ball for a couple of steals including one which led to a dunk. Jones, who has an offer from Longwood, was also credited with six assists. Junior Deshawn Price (6-foot-4) was too much for Glen Allen to handle inside as the big body post player finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds. He displayed a real nice touch from the free throw line making 7 of 9 attempts. However, he wasn't much of a factor in the second half when the Jaguars pressing defense limited the number of halfcourt sets.

Glen Allen junior guard Lorenz Boykin (5-foot-10) was awful in the 1st half but with the Jaguars down by 23, he caught fire raining back-to-back treys while finishing with five 3-pointers. Boykin scored 21 points in the 2nd half while leading a furious comeback that saw Glen Allen tie the game. He led the team with three steals. Gabriel Richardson (6-foot-4) quietly posted 16 points through a variety of putbacks and layups around the basket. Although he primarily plays the role of an inside player, Richardson stepped out for two 3-point attempts. He probably projects as a wing in college.

George Wythe vs Eastern View

George Wythe led by double digits for most of the game while cruising to an 80-55 win over Eastern View. The Bulldogs stretched a 39-30 halftime lead to 64-43 after three quarters. George Wythe had a noticeable height advantage with Eastern View having only one player taller than 6-foot-3 compared to seven for the Bulldogs. George Wythe finished with a 40-19 edge in rebounding. The biggest height difference was at the point guard position where I was impressed by the talent of 6-foot-5 wing Darrell Purdie who finished with 19 points, five rebounds and a game-high five assists. Purdie displayed both a short range and a long range draining three triples while going 3 for 8 from downtown. He also swished a short jumper in the lane and showed the ability to get his teammates open shots. Jarec Brown (6-foot-4) was voted Player of the game for his all-around outstanding play. He was very active on both ends and he finished with 18 points and seven boards while creating havoc in the passing lanes. Eugene Williams (6-foot-4) is another active player who made all his points from 3-point range.

Eastern View point guard D'ago Hunter (5-foot-5) was the smallest player on the court but he had one of the biggest stat lines finishing with 26 points including 10-12 from the free throw line while dishing out four assists. Hunter was 2 of 4 from 3-point range and used his height to his advantage against the tall timber he went up against.

Green Run vs Highland Springs

Green Run made quick work of Highland Springs leading 45-19 at halftime on their way to a running clock blowout win. The Stallions have athletes throughout the lineup which they use to run the floor for easy buckets. Green Run had 10 different players score a point led by Ashley James with 13 and Jachon Brown with 12.

James was by far the star of the game earning Player of the Game honors with his excellent court vision and passing skills. He finished with 13 points and six rebounds while not playing in the 4th quarter. He's an athletic point guard who currently sports offers from Norfolk State and Hampton University. He can finish at the rim and he made a soft floater near the basket.

Brown was biggest human on the floor at the Virginiapreps Classic and he has the build of an offensive tackle. Despite his bulk, Jachon moves well and can finish around the basket. He finished with 12 points on 6 of 7 shooting with six rebounds and two block shots. Shawn Saunders has a college ready build and college level ability. He had a modest night with eight points but showed he can do a lot of things well.

Tyler Oliver was the only consistent offensive threat for the Springers finishing with 18 points on 9 of 15 shooting from the floor while adding six rebounds. Oliver has a nice mid-range game from 15-feet and in.

LC Bird vs Lake Taylor

The Battle of the Unbeaten between Lake Taylor and LC Bird was one of the most anticipated games at the Virginiapreps Classic. Early on the game lived up to the advanced billing with a back-and-forth affair. In the 2nd quarter, Lake Taylor senior Jalen Jordan went into a shooting zone and he had one of those games where every shot he took seem to hit the bottom of the net. Jordan made all five of the 3-point attempts while finishing 13 of 15 from the floor to set a Virginiapreps Classic single game scoring mark with 38 points. He could have padded his new record in the 4th quarter but he watched the remainder of the game from the bench with the Titans up by 20 points. I watched Jordan in the Allen Iverson Reebok Showcase a few weeks earlier and he had a great shooting night during that game so he is definitely the real deal.

Jordan's great shooting night overshadowed a great performance by Dereon Seabron who scored 29 points with a team-high 13 rebounds. Sebron was 13 of 22 from the field and he scored a lot of points off the offensive glass and during transition defense after a turnover. Sebron is tall but he has good handles and he fits in nicely as a combo guard or on the wing.

Norfolk State commit Joe Bryant had an off shooting night with only five points and 1 of 8 shooting from the field but he contributed in other ways grabbing nine boards, dishing out five assists and one tremendous block.

LC Bird was led by junior Jamon Battle (6-foot-4) who filled the nets with a variety of of dunks, layups and stickbacks. Battle finished with a team-high 19 points on 8 of 11 shooting while grabbing seven rebounds. Senior Chris Ford (6-foot-7) was 4 of 5 from the field scoring 8 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. Tyrek Williams (6-foot-7) was one of four Skyhawks in double-figures scoring 10 points and grabbing seven rebounds.

Junior Corbin Slayton (6-foot-0) was the scoring leader during the 1st half for the Skyhawks and he finished with 13 points. His shooting was a little off from behind the 3-point arc (1 for 6) but he was aggressive looking for his shot.

John Marshall vs Potomac

Isaiah Todd (6-foot-9) is the Rivals #4 prospect in the 2020 class and watching his smooth game was worth the price of admission His skill-set was on display with his offensive repertoire scoring 17 points including a long three from behind the old NBA range. Todd opened the game with a corner jumper and added a beautiful fade away jumper. He also gives effort on the defensive end with three blocks while altering several shots just from his presence.

Todd's night ended early after he committed his 5th foul. That left the Player of the Game honors up for grabs and junior DeMarr McRae (6-foot-3) took advantage scoring 24 points and grabbing 11 rebounds with three assists. He converted 11 of 14 field goals. McRae is more of a combo guard with a scoring mentality. McRae showed off his hops with an alley-oop dunk in the 1st half and a monster dunk in the final minute to seal the game. He has offers from James Madison, Winthrop, Norfolk State and Hampton University.

Jarious Ashlock was good for 13 points, two rebounds and three assists and displayed the ability to hit the three. Roosevelt Wheeler, a 6-foot-9 freshman made his presence know with a couple of block shots. He had a nice game finishing with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Potomac point guard Jaylen Williams nearly had a triple-double with 19 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Williams showed range going 2 of 7 from three and he had a nice floater in the lane. Anthony Jackson scored all 15 of his points from behind the arc. Nick Pullum had eight points and eight boards before fouling out.

Trinity Episcopal vs WT Woodson

Armando Bacot was 1 of 2 Rivals.Com 5-Star prospects at the Virginiapreps Classic. WT Woodson had a frontline with size (6-foot-7 Nate Spurlock, 6-foot-8 Cody Mains, and 6-foot-10 Ben Jensen off the bench) but played a zone to try to stop Bacot. All he did was dunk his way to 27 points on 12 of 16 shooting from the field. On defense, he altered shots and forced the extra pass on drives to the basket. Bacot has offers from Kansas, North Carolina. Maryland, Villanova, Virginia and Florida among others.

Bacot shared Player of the Game honors with Old Dominion commit Jason Wade who keyed the Trinity Episcopal comeback with four steals, six assists and 27 points. Wade attacked the basket aggressively finishing 9 of 13 from the field. While he only attempted one 3-point attempt, Wade has proven he has the range to make shots from that distance. Henry Coleman has a high ceiling and he finished with a solid 13 points and eight boards for the Titans. He's an athletic four with strength.

W.T Woodson hung tight with Trinity Episcopal before the Titans pulled away late in the 4th quarter. Matthew Urbach scored 14 points and had a Virginiapreps Classic session one high eight assists. Urbach was 3 of 9 from 3-point range and added two steals for good measure. Nate Spurlock was on the receiving end on some of the Urbach passes as he finished with 14 points including two treys. He made a short jumper over top prospect Armando Bacot.
