REGION 5A

#8 Cox (6-4) at #1 Salem-VB (10-0)
#5 Woodside (9-1) at #4 Princess Anne (8-2)

#6 Nansemond River (8-2) at #3 Indian River (8-2)
#7 Deep Creek (7-3) at #2 Maury (10-0)

BEST FIRST ROUND GAME: #5 Woodside at #4 Princess Anne. This playoff home game is a first for Princess Anne going back decades. Despite losing only to Phoebus (9-1), Woodside gets a #5 seed at 9-1.

WORST FIRST ROUND GAME: #8 Cox at #1 Salem. We saw this game at Salem last week. The Sun Devils won 28-3.

REGION 5B

#8 Henrico (6-4) vs #1 Highland Springs (10-0) at Hermitage HS
#5 Clover Hill (8-2) at #4 Varina (8-2)

#6 Prince George (7-3) at #3 Deep Run (10-0)
#7 Douglas Freeman (7-3) at #2 Manchester (9-1)

BEST FIRST ROUND GAME: #6 Prince George at #3 Deep Run. Deep Run is a weaker 10-win team. They only beat four teams with a winning record, and one was Class 2 Thomas Jefferson (8-2). The Wildcats beat Henrico (6-4), Freeman (7-3) and only beat Patrick Henry (7-3) by a score of 17-14. Prince George is an upstart, not having a winning season in more than 20 years. Someone is going to get a confidence boost with a first round playoff win. Deep Run hasn’t won a playoff game since 2006 and they have exited in the first round each of the last three years.

WORST FIRST ROUND GAME: #8 Henrico at #1 Highland Springs. Highland Springs beat them on October 4 by a score of 41-8.

REGION 5C

#1 Stone Bridge (9-1) bye
#6 R.E. Lee (1-9) at #3 Briar Woods (5-5)

#2 Woodgrove (6-4) bye
#5 Potomac Falls (4-6) at #4 Riverside (6-4)

BEST FIRST ROUND GAME: #5 Potomac Falls at #4 Riverside. These two squared off on September 27 with Riverside winning 15-9.

WORST FIRST ROUND GAME: #6 R.E. Lee at #3 Briar Woods. No one-win team should be in the post-season.

REGION 5D

#8 Stafford (2-8) at #1 Mountain View (8-2)
#5 William Fleming (3-7) at #4 Harrisonburg (5-5)

#6 Albemarle (3-7) at #3 Patrick Henry-ROA (6-4)
#7 Brooke Point (1-9) at #2 North Stafford (6-4)

BEST FIRST ROUND GAME: None. All Games are regular season rematches. MV beat Stafford 21-7. Harrisonburg beat Fleming 52-10. Patrick Henry beat Albemarle 26-0.

WORST FIRST ROUND GAME: #7 Brooke Point at #2 North Stafford. The Wolverines played a tough schedule, losing to Highland Springs (10-0), Mountain View (8-2), Colonial Forge (8-2) and Massaponax (8-2). North Stafford beat one-win Brook Point 41-14 on October 25.

I guess Stonebridge will be back in the championship again. Literally no comp in the entire playoffs until states and they even get a bye in the first round. Smh

Excellent preview! A lot of good information. One small correction - in Region D, in the regular season William Fleming defeated Harrisonburg 52-10, not the other way round.

5D is just as bad!
They should pit 5A and 5B against C AND D so we could have a Tidewater/Richmond Championship possible!
The travel excuse is deplorable. Its a one time travel expense and I'm sure the northern Virginia schools ain't hurting for gas money to 804/757. Heck if they can put up some power points they'd be home and the 757/804 schools will travel to them, similar to basketball. If that happened tho, you'd probably see a 804/757 championship more often than a little bit and that may not be what certain folks want at VHSL...(all hypothetical of course)
