REGION 4A

#8 Great Bridge (3-7) at #1 Lake Taylor (8-2)
#5 Warwick (6-4) at #4 Hampton (7-3)

#6 King’s Fork (3-7) at #3 Warhill (8-2)
#7 Menchville (4-6) at #2 Churchland (8-2)

BEST FIRST ROUND GAME: #5 Warwick at #4 Hampton. This is a rematch, but Warwick has improved since they fell to the Crabbers 28-26 on September 12. The Raiders are 5-1 over the last six games.

WORST FIRST ROUND GAME: #8 Great Bridge at #1 Lake Taylor. The Titans may have some chinks in their armor and the Wildcats have been tested, but Lake Taylor should be able to out-athlete Great Bridge if they need to.

REGION 4B

#8 King George (6-4) at #1 Louisa (10-0)
#5 Spotsylvania (7-3) at #4 Patrick Henry-ASH (7-3)

#6 Huguenot (6-4) at #2 Eastern View (9-1)
#7 Dinwiddie (5-5) at #2 Monacan (8-2)

BEST FIRST ROUND GAME: #7 Dinwiddie at #2 Monacan. The Generals have to be the strongest seven seed in the entirety of the VHSL playoffs this year. Their 5-5 record includes losses to Massaponax (8-2), North Stafford (6-4), Prince George in OT (7-3), Hopewell (10-0) and Thomas Dale (7-3). Monacan is tough, but Dinwiddie is not the typical seven seed.

WORST FIRST ROUND GAME: #8 King George vs. #1 Louisa. The Foxes have accomplished much this season, after going 3-7 in 2017 and 1-9 last year. Louisa is a powerhouse. They now have three 10-0 regular seasons in a row. The Lions lost in the 2017 state championship game to Salem (Salem).

REGION 4C

#4 NW-Millbrook (7-3) at #1 Dulles-Broad Run (10-0)
#3 Dulles- Loudoun Valley (6-4) at #2 NW-John Handley (8-2)

#3 NW-Sherando (7-3) at #2 Dulles-Tuscarora (9-1)
#4 Dulles-Loudoun County (6-4) at #1 NW-Liberty-Bealeton (10-0)

BEST FIRST ROUND GAME: Sherando at Tuscarora. The Huskies were a Class 5 State Championship runner up in 2017 and continue to be solid. Sherando closed out the regular season on a four-game winning streak. These two teams have never met on the gridiron.

WORST FIRST ROUND GAME: Loudoun County at Liberty. Liberty was the best of a 15 team district and finished 10-0. Loudoun County was somewhat lucky to get six wins and qualify for the post-season. They lost three of their last five games. Their last three wins came against Warren County (2-8), Independence (2-8) and Heritage (1-9).

REGION 4D

#8 Amherst County (2-8) at #1 Salem-Salem (9-1)
#5 GW-Danville (7-3) at #4 Halifax County (7-3)

#6 Blacksburg (6-4) at #3 Pulaski County (8-2)
#7 Jefferson Forest (6-4) at #2 E.C. Glass (9-1)

BEST FIRST ROUND GAME: #5 GW-Danville at #4 Halifax. GW-Danville blasted the Comets 62-27 on October 18. GW was the home team for that game. Now they have to travel 35 miles to play a road playoff game and try to repeat the feat.

WORST FIRST ROUND GAME: #8 Amherst at #1 Salem. Amherst is a two-win team. Salem had a down year in 2018 (7-4) after winning the Class 4 state title each of the three prior seasons.

Excellent write-up! Thanks for posting this.

In Region C, I think Loudoun Valley at Handley will prove to be a better first-round game than Sherando at Tuscarora, which IMO will ultimately end up being not extremely competitive. And in Region A, the Warwick-Hampton game is notable because the Crabbers will be playing their first-ever playoff game as a member of Class 4 - after having spent the last forty-nine seasons (the entire playoff era) as a member of either original AAA, or Divisions 6 or 5.

Let me add that, like Dinwiddie, Jefferson Forest is a very atypical and highly dangerous #7 seed. Their first-round matchup with Glass could conceivably provide more drama than Glass fans would prefer.
