I have had this discussion with someone else more than once, so I thought I would ask you guys for some input. When VT scored tonight with 12 seconds left in the half to close their deficit to 17-15, why did they elect to kick the extra point as opposed to going for two and possibly taking a 17-17 tie into the locker room?

Now of course as things turned out, it did not make any difference, but why would a team choose to stay behind when they could tie the score and build some momentum in the process? Thoughts?

Also thought they should have went for tie while having the momentum. Biggest thing bothered me is on second and goal from one foot line, instead of going under center straight forward they lose yards two plays in a row and kick field goal. Knew they were going to be in trouble in second half settling for all them field goals. Can't take down top team squandering TD opportunities. Freshman tackle cost them one TD with stupid penalty when he was down field no where near the play. Then he let defensive lineman straight through on qb hit and fumble and also on the sack that backed them up to attempt field goal instead of TD. Also thought it was dumb not going on fourth down twice in second half down by two scores. Long field goal attempts was not going to help.

To try and keep it a one possession game. If they go for two and fail, and ND scores, which they did, they'd have been down 2 possessions at that point. Usually in most cases, you don't really want to go for 2, until you really have to.

All these tech fans have to accept reality that tech is not even close to a top 10 team. Its nice to pull for local teams but the bottom line is tech is not a major football school. If va. tech played in a power conference like the sec it would be lucky to have a winning record .

SEC is undoubtedly the strongest conference in the league this year and last, but the 3 years prior, the ACC was the strongest in football from top to bottom. This belief that the SEC is invincible is just plain wrong. Don't get me started on Olympic sports.

The SEC does really well in the Olympic sports like swimming, gymnastics and golf.
I'd disagree the ACC was the strongest three years ago, but honestly I don't remember it very well.
The ACC has been good until this year, but this year they're not good at all as a conference aside from Clemson and possibly Miami.
