Michael Blanchard pitched a complete game shutout as Nansemond River kept their Region playoff hopes alive with a 3-0 win over Gloucester in the Pen South Conference semi-finals.

Blanchard, who is headed to Old Dominion in the fall, struck out six while allowing only four hits and one walk.

Nansemond River scored one run in each in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings. Jarrett Henderson drove in the 1st run with a single to score pinch runner Corey Fago who was running for catcher Reid Williams. Fargo scored the 3rd run on an error after Williams walked to start the 4th inning. The Warriors second run came via an RBI single from junior Jarrid Johnson which scored Dion Jordan from 3rd base.

Jordan, a Norfolk State commit, reached base all three times including two singles and a walk. Jordan added three stolen bases.

Nansemond River awaits the winner of the Menchville-Warwick semi-final game. The game, played at War Memorial Stadium in Hampton, was delayed due to two umpires suffering heat exhaustion from an earlier game.
