Week 1 thoughts?

Thoughts after week 1:

1. Biggest surprise: It has to be Parry McCluer loss to Rockbridge Co. The Rock rolled to a
30+ margin in the 1st half against the Blues. The Rocks season record the past 4 years
Was 2-8, 0-10, 1-9 & 0-10.

2. James River gave up 79 points to Chatham. Turner has 9 TD'S for Chatham. New state record

3. George Wythe impressive win over 2a Radford. GW ranked #1 team in 1a. Who will give GW
A game this year?

4. Will anybody give Blacksburg a game this year? Who? Giles could not!

5. 3 of the 4 teams in the Hogo won. Only Pre-season favorite Chilhowie lost to 2A Marion by
5 points.

6. Don't sleep on Marion this year in the new SW District

7. Glenvar's win over 1A Galax.....most thought it would be closer

Biggest surprises/ things that stood out

Rappahannock with a blowout win at Nandua 50-7. A team that made the 2A playoffs and that Rapp lost to last year. Rapp may surprise some people this year.

Washington and Lee and Middlesex. Down to the wire in that one. W&L winning in OT. Middlesex may surprise some folks.

Sussex 8 Essex 0. From the posters on here, No offensive touchdowns in this one. Both should roll in this week. Cause for concern if they don’t.

PM getting blown out by Rockbridge. Big size difference in the schools but PM may be going through growing pains with a new HC.

Narrows over Auburn 27-0. Wondering if Narrows has turned the corner. Was expecting this game to be closer.

Galax 14 Glenvar 34. Seems like Glenvar was probably in control for this one. However, as we are always reminded Galax went 6-4 the year that the won the state title in 2015, including Glenvar in the season opener.

I wanted to congratulate W&L first year coach Joe Taylor. I know this is the first game of the season and there is a long way yet to go. But I am so happy that you decided to come home and take the reigns of the Eagles. I hope the community understands the gravity of the situation. Especially the kids in hopes that they come out and work your program for their future development. The kids will have confidence moving forward with how they were able to come from behind and then stick with it despite that momentum switch in the 4th. Good luck the rest of the way, I'll be at as many games as i can get to in support.. Go Eagles!!!!

I taught and coached this young man back when he was in middle school and can honestly say W&L got something special! Congrats JT and keep progressing!

I agree with MT FC will give us a game I still think we will win by 14-21 but it will take our youth a while to work out the kinks.

Other than RH, its wide open for their opponent. Literally 10-15 teams that I would consider capable of being their opponent. Msex is not one of them.
