I just wanted to commend @newleather for hanging in there with the pick em! Well done!
It is a marathon not a sprint. A lot like being down double digits early in a game. There are no 10 point shots and you just have to chip away week by week.I just wanted to commend @newleather for hanging in there with the pick em! Well done!
Vance is good but, saying they "could PROBABLY beat anybody regardless of class in VA" is stretching it IMO, particularly if you believe GW has a chance to win.My take from pick em:
Definitely one of the hardest pick em's I've been apart of. Ponax/Chancellor, Western Branch/LT, PH/JF, and Brookville/Western are all toss-ups. It can literally go either way. Also we will know if Hanover is for real against the powerful Dinwiddie Generals. Finally, it's surprising to see how many people picked GW to beat Vance. This Vance team could probably beat anybody regardless of class in VA. If GW is unable to utilize its passing game then it'll be over by halftime. Vance can score in bunches. LETHEL passing game. Their QB, Ifedi, is going to pass heavy ECU and they have another good one in TE Hall whose going to play for the Oklahoma Sooners. GW has to play darn near perfect if they want a shot of making it competitive. What GW does have is a darn good coach in Anderson. He'll have them ready. If GW wins, 49-42, if Vance wins, 56-35.
Should've made it more clear, "when Vance is at the top of their game, they can probably beat anyone in VA regardless of class". I'm basing my pick of GW beating them off of Vance having a bad night. By them having a bad night, GW's d-line has to be able to pressure the QB. GW has to mess with their rhythm. Just as important, the GW offense must be able to score. GW doesn't have the 8 D1/D2 players on offense and defense to help make it a respectable game like last year. Also, Vance is competitive with Mallard Creek, Hough, Charlotte Catholic, etc. They're nobody to take lightly. Went to the state semi's two years ago. I think Vance got a lil cocky last year and didn't meet their expectations. GW has a lot of work to do if they want to win.Vance is good but, saying they "could PROBABLY beat anybody regardless of class in VA" is stretching it IMO, particularly if you believe GW has a chance to win.
Vance handled GW last year right?Should've made it more clear, "when Vance is at the top of their game, they can probably beat anyone in VA regardless of class". Here's the stats page. I wouldn't say handled, but I will say that GW choked. Had a lot of opportunities that they didn't capitalize off of. If you look at the stats, it was pretty even.Vance handled GW last year right?
I don't check the picks till I'm ready to tally the results (that's why it's very important to make sure you pick a winner for each game, I won't catch it for you unfortunately) When I do the tally I check submission times to make sure they were turned in before the Thursday and Friday deadlines. I also check for edit times to be sure they meet the deadline. It is a marathon not a sprint. A lot like being down double digits early in a game. Mike a question for you. What is the preferable way for us to edit/change a pick prior to deadline and to make sure you catch it? I do not anticipate doing this but, just in case. Thanks for your efforts!!

Excuse my assumption for saying you guys got cocky my friend. GW has to play a perfect game if they want a shot. You guys reloaded this year. If GW doesn't bring their A game then I put a lot of money up that it'll be over by halftime. Should be a very good game though!Should be a good game here in Friday. Calling for terrible weather though. Last year Vance was ranked #1 in Charlotte Metro area at one point. They didn't get cocky at all.. We simply had players dropping like flies. At one point we had 6 starters out with injuries. Our key loss for the season was our running back. Just couldn't recover and to top it all off... We played the eventual state champions it the first round of the playoffs and lost to them in double OT Lol. Last year was something else!!! No doubt we are very very good again this year, but GW is a program used to winning!

Thanks for the info Mike. Just wasn't sure whether you entered early or did more tally after fact. I know it is unavoidable but Thursday games are easily missed(looks like some people might be in danger of being late this week just based off number of responses in thread so far). On a related note as far as scores go, I am not sure what the link address is or if they even do it anymore but, in the days prior to great state doing it(I think once he did it he used the site as well) you could type in either AP or Associated Press Virginia High School football scores and there was a comprehensive game and score listing. The VHSL puts a list out as well on their website but, it doesn't come out until Monday at the earliest.I don't check the picks till I'm ready to tally the results (that's why it's very important to make sure you pick a winner for each game, I won't catch it for you unfortunately) When I do the tally I check submission times to make sure they were turned in before the Thursday and Friday deadlines. All love here! My dad is making the drive down there Friday.. We've been to Charlotte a zillion times but do you have any advice as far as parking and what time to get there? We went to Mallard Creek a couple of times and had to walk feels like a mile and then stand in line forever lol! Thank you!Oh I didn't take that personal at all.
Appreciate the insight! I hope it's Saturday too! I'll be at the Dinwiddie/Hanover game tomorrow so I wanna listen to it in peace Saturday afternoon lolI didn't answer any part of your question. Lol
Vance is located I a BUSY area of Charlotte. We are in the University area near UNCC and traffic is a beast. Don't care what time you arrive now with all of this construction going on. Just be patient. Lol they have separate home and visitor gates. The home side is normally filled of long lines but it just depends on how well the visitors travel. Personally, I am rooting for a Saturday game at 2:00.
Hahaha I'm looking forward to the game at Hanover tomorrow! I'm praying it's not a down pour!Oh, so you are abandoning us for GW? Where is the love???
Haha! I was hoping you didnt see that.Ridge, tell me you didn't. Hanover? My feelings are crushed.
But then you did smoke me by five last week.Haha! I was hoping you didnt see that.
Tell you the truth alot of these teams i know nothing about, so im going on last years winner.. lolBut then you did smoke me by five last week.
NmIt worked pretty darn good for you! Danny Lewis has a little private pool of Richmond area games going. I only missed one last week.
Of course he only had four games to pick. And 98% of everybody else got three, or all four correct.
This reminds me of something from the Cold War days. I posted this recently, so forgive me for repeating myself. The USSR and the USA competed in some type of two team athletic match. The US won, but Pravda reported the results as the Russians finished second, and the US finished next to last.
Thank you for the update. And that's the QB Carlos Poole. 6'3, skinny, but a very nice frame for a sophomore. He's the next QB after our current one Sam Branch graduates in 2 years. And yes sir that's Nate Poole's nephew! His brother Carl Jr., also a sophomore, starts at linebacker and is the backup RB on the varsity. Both should go major D1 when it's all over. Their cousin Jayden (senior) starts at LT and DT, which is also Nate's nephew. Very talented and all around good kids.It was a very good game.. I kept hearing the last name Poole! I assumed that is Nate Poole's nephew. Is that right? He beat single handily beat us. He made big play after big play. Game has been moved to Saturday by the way 2:00
