Thanks for posting 2025. This goes to the point I made 3 weeks ago about the points. I stated that I thought there would be enough points left on the table by the end of the season for the Glenvar/Giles Winner to be #1 ranked in the state if they win out.

Glenvar/Giles opponents left to play have won 14 out of district games with 25 games remaining. Appomattox opponents have won 12 games and only 23 games remaining. Union opponents have won 15 games but only have 20 remaining. Richlands opponents have only won 12 games with 18 games remaining. Buckingham opponents have won 12 games with only 19 remaining.

Someone with a better knowledge about the point system please tell me if I am wrong and why that the Glenvar/Giles winner will not be #1 if they win out. The only way I see this scenario not playing out is if Appomattox beats Amherst and Amherst has a great second half of the season (which I don't see happening).

Buckingham also has Bluestone remaining. Also, Goochland is 3-2. The loss to Fork Union counts apparently as FUMA Is rated as a 2A school even though they are not part of the VHSL.

I was going to ask about that. The currently show Goochland as 3-1 and 20.25. However, if you look at the weekly ratings they have an additional row for Goochland -G which only shows the loss against Fork Union. If you add that in then Goochland slips to 17.8 putting them 5th. I'm sure someone else noticed that as well.

Goochland 20.25000
Stuarts Draft 19.80000
Clarke Co.19.60000
Amelia Co. 19.40000
Buffalo Gap 19.40000

Bruton 14.00000
East Rockingham 14.00000
Madison County 13.60000

Over the previous years Goochland end of the season rating points were based on a nine game season. Fork Union never counted.

I made my prediction on Appomattox 3 weeks ago. Right now they are 16 points ahead of Giles. This is my numbers on games left.
Appomattox
vs. Dan River (already 4-2 predict them at 6-4) 30 points
vs. AltaVista (3-2 predict 5-5) 28 points
vs. Nelson (1-6 predict 1-9) 20 points
vs. Chatham (1-4 predict 2-8) 22 points
vs. Amherst (3-2 predict 4-6) 30 points
TOTAL of 130 points

Giles
vs. Glenvar (5-0 predict 9-1) 36 points
vs. Radford (5-1 predict 7-3) 32 points
vs. Floyd (1-5 predict 2-8) 22 points
vs. East Mont. (0-5 predict 0-10) 18 points
vs. Auburn (4-1 predict 6-4) 30 points
TOTAL 138 points
That still leaves Giles only making up 8 points of 16 they are down now. You cant really argue my predicted records too much because they are all playing each other and any upset would just give one team another win and take one away from another. Doesn't change total points none in the end. Now if you look at ryder points for teams they have done played.
Buckingham's only tough game left maybe Goochland. That puts them winning 3-4 more 6-8 more points.
Rustburg I have winning last 3 after losing to JF next game. 6 points
Heritage will win against 3 of weak teams left. 6 points
W. Campbell wins 2 more (chatham/nelson). 4 points
Gretna, I have my Hawks winning 3 out of last 4(W.Campbell, Dan River, Nelson, AltaVista some may not agree but if not then just go back up top and add another win to Appomattox's remaining teams points) 6 points.
Apopomattox 28-30 ryder points

Giles ryder points
Blacksburg maybe 2 more (Cave Springs Christiansburg) 4 points
Christiansburg maybe 2 more (Hidden Valley Carroll) 4 points
Narrows (maybe one more win) 2 points
Graham (2-3 more wins) 4-6 points
Galax (3 more wins) 6 points
Giles 20-22 Ryder points
That's close to 8 points back to Appomattox and puts them 16 back ahead of Giles. Don't see my predictions being off that much to make up 16 points.

I don't see Giles catching them but I think Union has a great shot with JI burton & Richlands keeps winning. Thoughts?

If Appomattox wins out Union I think is the only chance to catch them. They too far ahead for district to make it up and Appomattox and Union I think will rack up more ryder points from here on out for outer district. I had originally given Christiansburg 2 more to Giles for playing winless Cave Springs. Was shocked to see Cave Springs win that one. In my overall prediction I had Appomattox beating Union out by 2-3 points but that is definetly something that could change. Union actually stands to gain as many points from remaing games as Giles or Glenvar also.

Here is my top 6 at the end as I have put the pencil to my predictions.
1. Appomattox 29.0
2. Union 28.6
3. Giles 27.6
4. Richlands 27.2
5. Buckingham 26.0
6. Glenvar 26.0

If Glenvar were to beat Giles then just swap them 2 with points about the same in swapping.

Is this all best case scenarios for each team? Do you think appomattox can beat Amherst Co. at the end of the year?

Union will not lose another game this year - Lee, Richlands and JI Burton will probably all finish 8-3, 9-1 and 9-1

Union going 10-0 with playing 3 teams with a combine record probably 26-5 - I am not a Union fan but that is some pretty good wins that should help them.

Yes this is with all 6 winning the rest except for Giles/Glenvar which I predicted Giles. Think Appomattox will beat Amherst. Appomattox beat Rustburg and everyone thinks Rustburg will handle Amherst. Yes Union will have a good shot at it. Buckingham I think will also finish 9-1, 3A Rustburg I think will finish 7-3, and 4A Amherst will win 4-5 games. A 7-3 Rustburg 3A win is 34 and a 9-1 JI Burton 1A is 35. A 5-5 Amherst 4A is 32 and a 7-3 Lee 2A is 32. A 2A 9-1 Buckingham and Richlands is the same 36.

Interesting stuff --- this makes it for an exciting end of the year and how each game matters. Thanks for the insight !

If u have giles beating glenvar who is the loss to...they would b 10-0 with glenvar 9-1 rider points

My prediction has Giles at 10-0. Glenvar at 9-1 with 36 points to Giles. All ryder points under that are from teams Giles has done beat.

Thanks everyone. This is new to me and it's making better sense when you break it down like that. I guess Appomattox/Union gets it with their wins over 2 different 3A opponents who have decent records? Even though Giles beat Blacksburg who is winning, Cburg is a bust. Glenvar has only one win over 3A and that is CS and they are a bust. In the end that seems to be the difference but I am glad it doesn't really matter much whether your 1-6 by that point it's whose hot. There is a big drop off from there.

I don't see Giles catching them but I think Union has a great shot with JI burton & Richlands keeps winning. Thoughts?
If Union can manage to win out, the #1 seed should be theirs, by my projections. Also, IIRC, I don't think Appo beating Amherst is automatic. It's too early to predict exact point totals with all the riders still to be determined, but I think themath favors the following finishing order:

1) Union
2) Appo
3) Giles/Glenvar winner
4) Richlands
5) Buckingham
6) Glenvar/Giles loser

I see what u r saying now....didn't look at it right...if u r 3 or 4 u only move in the semis. ..if u r 1 n 2 u don't move till state...one week at a time...

How are the points awarded? I noticed youre giving same amount of points for beating a 1A team and a 2A team. I thought it was 17 for beating a 1A team, 18 for beating a 2A team and 21 for 3A. If this is correct, then by my predictions, i have Richlands beating out Giles by 4 points. 274-270. Didnt want to go any further until someone confirms how many points are awarded for each classification.

I think it is:

Win against opponent that is:
1A 16
2A 18
3A 20
4A 22
5A 24
6A 26

Lose against opponent that is:
1A 4
2A 6
3A 8
4A 10
5A 12
6A 14

Two points per game won by your opponent, regardless of their classification.

Four points could go either way depending on how Giles' and Richlands' opponents do from from here on out. But I agree, if Giles and Richlands win out, Richlands can still outpoint Giles despite having one loss. The 1A TRD teams Giles HAS to play puts them at a disadvantage in points, combine that with Galax's inability to win some close games and county rival Narz falling on hard times and it is doubtful Giles can rise above #3 seed.

If 1A is 16 and 2A is 18 that would make a significant difference. I calculated them as 17 points for 1A. But yes it could go either way. The Abingdon game for Richlands will be huge. Gonna be a tough game.

I guess this matters some but in the end 1 and 2 are the only two staying at home for the duration....if not underdogs won then 3 and 4 would only travel one time...and really there are some tough teams like galax with one win that will make some team overlooking them regret it...nothing matters but salem...if you leave the dance before then your just another loser

#1 would be the only one staying at home. #2 would go East. Youre right though. 3 and 4 really doesnt matter unless 1 and 2 exit early.

What if both #1 and #2 seeds in the East get bounced early. Does the higher of the two surviving East teams still host the lower of the two from the West?

Yes. So you could see #2 west traveling to #3 east if #3 was the highest rated team left.

Wished it went by ratings. I think when it comes to cross bracketing the two highest rated teams should host. Not sure what you could use for a tiebreaker though. Maybe thats why they dont do it that way.

A 1A district opponent is worth the same as a 2A district opponent, so Auburn, Radford, and E. Montgomery are all worth 18 points for Giles and Glenvar.

Ok after finally finding some detailed information you are correct. 2 bonus points for playing a lower classification in your district. 1 bonus point for playing out of district.

I was going to ask about that. The currently show Goochland as 3-1 and 20.25. Goochland 20.25000

Buffalo Gap 19.40000
Mason, George 17.50000

Central (W) 14.60000
Bruton 14.00000
East Rockingham 14.00000
Madison County 13.60000

If they do account for games against private schools then George Mason will also be lower. They have a loss against Sidwell Friends that isn't accounted for.

YES 2A gets same 18 points for playing 1A district team, only 17 for out of district. 2 points for every win a team u beat n 1 for every win team you lose to has.
