...and 58 players on their junior varsity football team, and
54 players on their freshmen team!

Enrollment is about 2,790 students.

They won the last two 6A state championships in football in Virginia.
Amazing that the interest is still there, with all of these concussion stories coming out.
I applaud them!

Wish I was in Virginia to see them play Lake Braddock tomorrow.

Oscar Smith has 75 players on their varsity, and they host a team from Florida tomorrow, Vero Beach High.
Oscar Smith has 34 players on their junior varsity. Their enrollment is about 2,100.
There was a nice post on twitter offering a prayer for the safe travels for the Vero Beach team.

Westfield - there are about 30 underclassmen listed on both Varsity and JV rosters. Still a nice turnout.

I saw where Mount Vernon's (Alexandria) coach said they have over 120 kids this season after being in the 40s last year. That is an impressive turnaround.

Turnout has to do with demographics...Number of NOVA schools have over 2,000 students but half or more have no interest in football...Soccer yes...

So you really only have a little over 1,000 students to pull from.

Don't think Westfields has that problem.

Westfield always carries some players on both teams (varsity and JV) since the JV team is, more realistically speaking, a "developmental" team for those kids who need the reps but would not get them if they played up on varsity. The Bulldogs are also very young this year and if preseason is any indication over half their starters will be underclassmen with many of the top subs also underclassmen. But we will find out tonight, in just a few short hours.....
