What the playoffs would look like if they went back to the old sectional format

I originally was NOT a fan of the sectional format but I think it give us more interesting matchups than the regional format. Yes travel sucks but I for one hate seeing rematches in the playoffs. In the Regional format about half the games in the first round of A & B are rematches. Especially in Region A where 2 of the 3 districts schedule each other almost exclusively for their non district games because they are so close geographically and school size.

So under the 16 team sectional format this is the playoffs heading into the last week of the regular season

1 Riverheads (26.00)
16 Colonial Beach (11.33)

8 West Point (16.67)
9 Westmoreland (16.50)

4 Buffalo Gap (20.11)
13 William Campbell (14.00)

5 King and Queen Central (19.67)
12 Surry County (14.11)

3 Essex (24.44)
14 Northampton (13.89)

6 Northumberland (19.12)
11 Franklin (16.11)

7 Sussex Central (17.33)
10 Rappahannock (16.22)

2 Central Lunenburg (24.67)
15 Altavista Combined (12.00)

Because is based on VHSL ratings. And i Believe Essex would be #2 and Lunenburg #3
This was taken from the VHSL ratings heading into week 10. Also Lunenburg plays in a district that is almost exclusively 2A teams (so more points)

Heading into week 10 (Essex 9-0 24.4444 power points and Lunenburg 9-0 24.66667 power points) I'm pretty sure they ended up outpointing them because Essex beat 1A Rappahannock who is a 5 win team while Lunenburg beat 2A Amelia who is also a 5 win team

How would rivershead be over Essex with a loss?
Riverheads plays is district that is mostly 2A and 3A teams thus more points. For example Riverheads lost to 9-1 3A team Lord Botetrout they would get more points in that loss than say Essex would beating a 1 win Lancaster team. All on strength of schedule and who you play not just who you beat.

This year Riverheads beat four 3-A teams, two 2-A teams and two 1-A teams, and as someone pointed out, their only loss was to a 3-A team that went on to finish 9-1, which helped them. Their 10th game, which would have been against 1-A Westmoreland, was cancelled due to that weekend's hurricane and the parties agreed not to re-schedule it. I assume it would not have made a huge difference in the rankings.

Riverheads got 17 points for the loss to LB

Essex got 18 points for beating a 1 win Lancaster (just going off your example).

Essex highest point game was KW (2A 7-3 Game)= 32 points, they also had a 32 point game vs. KQ.

Riverheads highest point game was Wilson (3a 7-3)= 34 points. Riverheads also had a 34 point game against Staunton and a 32 point game with Stuarts Draft.

Central Lunenburg highest point game was Buckingham (2a 8-2)= 34 points

But since its questioned:

Riverheads: 26.56
Essex: 25.40
Central: 25.60

I thought he was using final ratings and I knew Essex had 25.4. Had no idea what Lunenburg's final rating was although it's 25.6. So Region B will host the state semifinal for a 4th consecutive fall season (discounting the spring COVID season when WP hosted)

Not that it matters, but I was WAY off on Riverheads.

Don't know how, had the right numbers, o well. Riverheads 27.44
