They haven't gotten quite as many athletes out for basketball as in the past, for whatever the reason.
Got a chance to see them during the summer at the L.C. Bird Summer League... thought they were in 're-building mode,' and they got a win early in the season over Armstrong following a close overtime loss to Prince George that signaled to me that they were making progess. Then they got absolutely walloped by Dinwiddie, suffered a head-scratching loss to Colonial Heights (not so much the loss since C.Heights is improving, but definitely the margin) and they've been very un-Petersburg like.
Gemonta Jackson, the football standout who's headed to ODU to play that sport, was really the only player in the off-season that stood out to me.
Furthermore, this is not the year to be 'down' in the Central District or Group 3A where you have to face teams such as defending 3A State Champ John Marshall, the 3A runner-up George Wythe, undefeated Hopewell, a Matoaca team that is in the Top 10 in 5A and a Meadowbrook squad that is just on the outside of that Top 10.
You'd like to see them give the new Head Coach a chance. That being said, the Crimson Wave haven't struggled this much in a long time and not sure I see the light at the end of the tunnel yet.
