Apparently a lot of teams. Giles toughest 5 opponents this season. Radford, Christiansburg, Glenvar, Galax, and Graham have all scheduled Giles the week after their off week. Coincidence? DOUBT IT!
That is very interesting indeed, Always huge when you have more time to prepare.Apparently a lot of teams. Giles toughest 5 opponents this season. Radford, Christiansburg, Glenvar, Galax, and Graham have all scheduled Giles the week after their off week. Coincidence? DOUBT IT!
Never said it was a conspiracy. Surprisingly odd though. If I were a betting man, I'd say some coaches got together with their AD's and told them if there were a way to get the bye week ahead of the Giles game, that would be wonderful.. It also can backfire. I've seen lots of teams come off a bye week and look flat, slow, sloppy,. We'll see. And by the way, this is the 3rd straight year Giles has played Galax, with Galax having the bye week the week before. Too suspicious. I'm sure some of it just worked out that way, as you said, but that's just way too many for there not to be a little strategy involved. Many teams have played them with only one week to prepare, and still beat them. Does it really matter when the team continues to run the same thing over and over and over? It is about playing assignment football and which team is basically better in all phases of the game on a certain day. 15-18 year old boys are a tough group to work with on many levels....
I doubt all those teams got together and said they were going to "rig" the schedule so that they had a bye the week before playing Giles. It just happened by the way things went this cycle on each teams schedule. This is not a conspiracy act to take down the mighty Giles Spartans and their single-wing.
Having the Glenvar/Giles game on a Saturday (after the Friday night VT game) is going to be awesome. That is going to draw from Roanoke Valley/Giles county because all the other games are on Friday night. (I think). If both teams are undefeated it could be the biggest regular season game in this area of the state in terms of attendance in 1a/2a history. That was a great move by the ADs.
Both have a great chance to be undefeated when they meet up and winner will have an inside track to a 1 or 2 seed in the West. Glenvar might be better off losing that first game 33-0. lolLiving in Staunton, I wasn't planning to see any regular season Giles games, but since this one is on a Saturday, I will be there. It will be electric. Every Spartan getting off the bus will have a chip on their shoulder and something to prove.
