ok 2 part question here... last week we appo fans were informed thateveryone west of lynchburg were union fans..... mainly bc appo gets the so called “ New England Patriots / Alabama treatment “. . Still trying to figure that one out since we were not the number one seed and not at home ... That said who do you think wins and who do you want to win this matchup with robert e lee.. I have no idea how the swva fans feel I would assume they are lee fans this week bc appo gets all this special treatment.... I guess everything appo has done in the last3 yrs was given to them .... I am pulling for appo and hoping they win, but I don’t know alot about lee but surely will by late saturday night... lets go raiders. PO1

I am from Ridgeview, live in Bristol, can see the Tennessee line from my doorstep, so I am about as SWVA as SWVA can get. Every Appo fan I have interacted with has been nothing short of polite and respectful, including the ones I met Saturday.

I haven't met anyone from Robert E. Lee, but did meet a lot of Riverheads folks in Galax last year, and they were nice folks as well. I assume Lee folks being from the same town are good people as well.

I think Appo wins the game. I will be sitting on the Appo side, but more than anything, just want to see a close game. I'm thinking we definitely will NOT see that in the 1A game.

I think most people with no real emotional ties to a game generally pull for the underdogs. No hate or disrepect towards the favorites, just human nature, in my opion.

Alabama and the patriots aren't the #1 seed every year either but they're usually dominant and considered the favorite to win most years. Unless you're a fan of the team that has continued dominance you're most likely going to pull for the underdog.

Only you hypersensitive folks would take a compliment and start a thread just to whine about it.

Well living in the same area is subjective. Most from this area wouldn't say Riverheads and Staunton are from same area. I believe Riverheads High School is listed as Staunton, but most families live in Stuarts Draft/Greenville by address.

I'm sure a lot of areas are like this, but you can have neighbors who ones address says Stuarts Draft and other says Waynesboro, but Waynesboro is about 10 minutes away.

Not saying Staunton people aren't nice people, but I see Staunton as city people and lots of things in town and Riverheads is country folks.

Your first post is a clear display of whining. I have nothing to be sour about but it sure is watching you guys get so worked up over a game you WON

True. The part that gets me is people automatically hating a winner without knowing much about them or truly looking at their program. Appo is the example of course. People should take 10-15 minutes to learn as much as they can about the guy coaching Appomattox. He's a man's man and one of a kind, and if the world had more of him, it would be a much better place. What he has done for that program and most importantly, the kids is amazing. The QB for Appo was rough a few years ago and that's the truth. The kid has done a 180 since the Appo Coach has come into his life and mentored him. The kid is an absolute class act and equally important to me, he's a Christian. This is just one example of Smith's excellence not just on the field, but off the field. This story was related to me by an Appo fan at the state title game last year. P.S. Some of the nicest and classiest people I've ever met last year at the state title game, and we even tail-gaited together and has some hotdogs. That's my take on Appo, but dam**t, I am torn because I love that program, but since we lost to Lee, I have to root for Lee because I want my team to lose to the state champion. Lee also has a class act Coach and the man is underestimated, or at least, not talked about enough. That program is solid.

The QB you are talking about is Dion Edwards. Yes, all that is truth. He took over in 2014 after my son went down Junior year from ACL injury. he played QB for rest of season. He was QB when we loss to Lee. He also was the QB in 2012, but we didnt make playoffs. In 2013, he was academically ineligible to play a GAME BEFORE THE season (another reason, our AD is trash, list goes on with him). That is why we had RB Kendall Blankenship at QB for 2013. He is a good kid. he went to a JUCO after school in Kansas but didnt pan out for him, but he is still going to college.

Thank so for the nice words for Coach Smith lucas. He truely is awesome and those of us with boys on the team are very thankful they get to play under him.

Loved my trip to Big Stone.
What a beautiful ride in and the old coal mining town took me back to my days growing up in coal country in PA. The field in the middle of town reminded me of my highschool field.
Just a great trip all around and I'm glad I got to make it. Folks I met there were great too. Met SWVA havok ( actually remember meeting him at state game in 2015), a gentleman from Gate City, and one other guy.
After the game Boathead from here introduced himself as well and he even congratulated Coach Smith as well.
Great experience!

And you made the Facebook video of the game. @Bo Bob is famous now

I made a post a while back that asked the question if Region B was the toughest because the 3 and 4 seeds beat the 1 and 2 seeds. I was not insinuating that they are the best, but that must have been one tough Region to come out of

With that said, I'm pulling for Appomattox this week because I feel Union deserves to be beat by the eventual state champion. Takes a little out of sting we are feeling now.

I pray for safe travels for both teams, a good slobber knocker of a game and finally, everyone to come away injury free.

We do love our football in SWVA but we also know talent when we see it and Appo has a huge chance to add to their trophy case.

Dang FB!!!! Lol!!!

Yea that was me.
My young nephews in PA were watching their cousins.

I will be pulling for Lee to win the first 2A State Championship from this area. This team is special. They overcame their biggest problem from past history outside of coaching and that was discipline. I have been tracking and listening to their games this year. I do think they have a shot to dethrone the king.

I wish Graves would stay also, but N.C. State jumped on him early and they were smart for doing so. Graves may end up in the league. He's talented. I still say we haven't heard the last of Scruggs even at the college level. He's simply to talented and to good of a football player to be average at Liberty. He's going to light it up. He reminds me much of Jerick McKinnon (former Ga Southern now Minnesota Vikings player) that was similar size, 5'10, 175 out of High School and his biggest offers were Air Force and Ga Southern. He was a freak in Atlanta, GA, in High School, but his size kept the huge schools from coming to close. He was an All-American at Ga Southern and used to take games over. I watched him do it against Old Dominion in the playoffs a few years ago. Scruggs is similar to me, and just because he's going to Liberty doesn't mean he can't play in the League on Sunday's either. Time will tell on him. I hope he makes it. He's one of my most favorite players to watch at the High School Level in the last 20 years. He's versatile and will likely be getting lots of touches at Liberty in the slot, and maybe even be taking some snaps like McKinnon did at Ga Southern. He would be under center for some of the game, then be lined up in the backfield, and sometimes catching bubbles and wedge-screens just dominating opposing defenses. I can see that with Scruggs. He's a beast and I think he's much, much better than the level he's being recruited at.
