You know the story this week is going to be the two great defenses, and Glenvar did light up the scoreboard today, but how do they put up points on Wilson Memorial? I think the conventional wisdom its that Wilson Memorial might have a better offense, but they sure struggled with Richlands today. What should each team try and do to get enough points to pull it out?

Every matchup is different...amazingly it looks (a week in advance tho) like it might actually be sunny and 50 on the Salem Stadium turf for the title game, so the last two standing will go at it. I see that in 2012, Wilson clubbed Glenvar 40-0 in the playoffs when some of this season's seniors for both were sophs.. Two years ago "ain't now." but Wilson's team has been on a roll since, unlike the Highlanders. Wilson may very well be banged up a bit (but still won without their #1 runner) while Glenvar may be injury-free (see what happened vs Giles part 2.
Richlands turned the ball over too much and no team could survive that, a ridiculous amount of flags (for a state semi. IMHO) beset both teams, miserable weather was thrown in to complicate matters, while two stout defenses went toe to toe for 48+ minutes.
Maybe Glenvar vs Wilson will be an offensive show...but defense wins championships as long as the O contributes just enough.

You gotta run what got u there. As I stated in a different post, the LB's and DB's for WM are exceptional. They can be run on but it's not in chunk yards. Legitimately one of the best defensive units I have seen in 2A. They are patient on offense and generally just out execute teams. It almost kills me to say all that but they are deserving of the praise. I will say that I don't think they would be comfortable playing from behind. They showed some chinks in the armour in the RHS game but they just waited too long to go into their spread. If Glenvar can read their keys and diagnosis who has the ball and play containment, then they shouldn't get beat with big plays. They will need to be patient on offense and not turn the ball over. I don't see a high scoring game but I also don't see a 2 score game. I am thinking 28-20 and right now it's a toss up. Good luck to both, they deserve to be there.

One thing of note is Wilson has only given up 2 rushing touchdowns this season. One was today on a short keeper. The other, (cough, cough, cough) was against the best Double Wing team in the state, Riverheads. Since we are sharing compliments, I just wanted to throw that one out there because Riverheads runs the D wing to perfection. They plug a different player into the system and the system still purrs like a kitten. I have been a witness to it for a while now. Glenvar will be a challenge and a hard fought game. Richlands has a very good defense as well. I have a feeling Wilson will need to open it up more to move the ball on Glenvar. The teams left standing are physical and fast so it will be a battle. I do not see this game getting into the 20's but I very well could be wrong.

Glenvar firing on all cylinders right now. Very balanced offense that will take what the offense gives them. Very good O line, good running backs with both power and speed, and a QB who has is getting better every week. He can pass with accuracy as both Giles and Nottoway found out...and get a tough 4 yards on the keeper when needed WRs are great as well on both short and long routes.

On defense there have been very few mistakes since playoffs began. Two long passes caught today were just great plays by Nottoway. The rest of the game they didn't do muchDefensive line is disciplined and tough to run on. Both DE's are very good.

The coaching staff is on their game plan like never before and the game is a "home" game for Glenvar with the whole community coming together in support of both Salem and Glenvar.

WM will have their hands full. I look for a 35-28 game.

I honestly do not know anything about Wilson. Glenvar has 2 great things going for them #1 - A stout defense that stuffs the run and #2 - A very balanced offense with an underrated passing attack. Imho , to me the passing attack will give Wilson a problem. Could be wrong. Just my thought. If I had to pick a winner id say Glenvar 24 Wilson 21

Wilson Has I believe 10+ INT in the postseason alone. They also have yet to allow more than one offensive touchdown in a game this year and today surrendered only their second rushing touchdown of the year

If glenver wins this game it will be from passing, not their running game. Glenver fans will raise hell over that statement but it's the facts. Against good defenses the run game struggles. Better put pressure on qb or he can pick u apart with pretty good receivers.

Wilson defense is very tough, they don't make a lot of mistakes, if u may a mistake they capitalize, so glenvar will have to have a balance of running and passing to beat them, they have a lot of interceptions all year, and at least 8 or more in the last 2 games, I think it will be a very physical game, glenvar is rolling the last 2 games beating the defending champs, and beating a Nottaway team which had not given up many points in the 2 games prior to yest, so should be a classic game and will prob go down to which team can make the least amount of mistakes, and which team can adjust to the other team in the second half, I bet a green team wins. GO BIG RED

If there is a better QB than the last 2 we have faced, I want to see him. The kid from Brunswick was a pure athlete with an excellent arm and could run with anyone. The kid from Richlands was probably the best throwing QB I have seen in HS. The offensive patterns and the O line help a lot, but that kid could flat make any throw. I doubt very seriously Glenvar's QB could be better than these two, but I haven't seen him.

That same question has been acts...

2 weeks in row about Glenvar and we all know that they been able to do. This will be a high scoring game from both teams.

That would be didn't. I have been out for a while. Thanks Trevor, oversight on my part.

Re: That same question has been ask...

You're zoo line with the fence around West Va was priceless man. I lost it

Glenvar didn't run against Giles effectively in either game. Pressure on the QB is the key to pass defense against them from what I've seen. Their D is solid. If Wilson can defend the pass effectively I think its a low scoring game. From the videos of Wilson's offense that have been posted here, I see them having trouble running against the Glenvar D. But if we know what would happen, they wouldn't have to play the game.

If Nottoway didn't think Glenvar could run the ball, why did they stack the line almost the entire game. They had 6 on the line and what looked like 3 linebackers and 2 DB's. with no safety. That was there undoing once Glenvar got in sync with the passing game in the rain. Giles at times also looked like they were stacking the line to stop the run both games so at least somebody on Giles coaching staff thought they could run the ball. Everyone knows Clifford loves to run the ball given the option. Sure, if you put all those bodies up there to stop the run, you will most likely stop the run. I will say it again....The thing that makes Glenvar dangerous this year is a balanced attack. Teams can't just focus their defense on 3-4 players with Glenvar anymore. They didn't have the balance until they got the line healthy right before the Giles game. Tyler Smith "Bus" is a very good bruising back and Manns can take it to the house outside or off tackle on any given play as Nottoway found out if teams play honest..If they don't then Glenvar has the weapons to make them pay overtop.

WM is tough and should be a very good game with both good defense and some explosive offense at times. Glenvar is still playing loose and will play to win. They are still confident and hungry from what I see. I believe WM will be a little more conservative and afraid to make mistakes.

After watching some highlights of Glenvar they seem to pass well, but really is impressive is how their receivers are able to break tackles. However, Wilson's D is stout and they do a great job of tackling. Should be a great matchup!

As of right now its looking like the Glenvar QB will have much better weather than Michaels had against the Hornets. Also better footing and speed for the WM dbs. Looks to be a good match up on paper.

Re: That same question has been ask...

It's all in fun, really I can take what I dish out. I just hope no one comes knocking on my door one day. LOL!!!

Re: I'm very excited...

For me the X factor in the game is the turf and the big crowd. Not sure how either team will handle it. Does anyone know how tall WM DB's are? That could also be a factor.

Re: I'm very excited...

Lets just remember one thing about speed - Giles has as much speed as anyone including Wilson yet Glenvar handled them easily.

Re: I'm very excited...

5'9" 170.
5'10" 170

6'3" 185
6' 185

Around 13 INT I believe for the defense in postseason

Re: I'm very excited...

If Wilson wins one it better be this year. I don't see Glenvar throwing the ball that well. The two safeties for Wilson are very good football players. They sit about 15 yds deep and don't let anything get behind them. They also come up and get a lot of hats to the football. The key to moving the ball on them is working short to intermediate routes. Then its a whole new ball game from the 30 in with them. Good luck to both teams and I'll be riding up from Richlands to watch the game on Saturday.

Dude, smith is not a good back and is offensive guard at best. The mistake Glenver makes is not giving the ball to Manns 20 times a game. No way shape or form did Giles ever stack the box to stop Glenver run. They never had to.
