WILLIAM CAMPBELL AND RIVERHEADS ADVANCE TO GROUP A DIVISION I BASEBALL FINAL

SALEM, Va. ?
William Campbell and Riverheads High Schools' baseball teams both won semifinal games Saturday in the Virginia High School League's 2013 Spring Jubilee.

The teams will vie for the state title Sunday at 10:00 a.m. at Kiwanis Park in Salem.

William Campbell 8, Auburn 2 ? William Campbell spotted Auburn a pair of early runs and then rallied for eight straight runs to earn its first state title berth with an 8-2 victory.

William Campbell took the lead for good in the top of the third with four runs, responding to a two-run bottom half of the second for Auburn.

Colby Harrison knocked two doubles and drove in two runs, and Mitch Mason, Brent Guthrie, and Cody Lawhorn each drove in a run to lead the comeback for William Campbell. Guthrie came on in relief to earn the victory on the mound working 5.2 scoreless innings and striking out eight Auburn batters.

Levi Bower suffered the loss for Auburn. He gave up four earned runs in 4.0 innings of work. Gabrael Spencer and Cody Akers each had two hits for Auburn.

Riverheads 5, Clintwood 0 ? Zach Clymore and Ethan Whitehead combined for a two-hit shutout to lead Riverheads to a 5-0 win over Clintwood and a trip back to the finals. Riverheads advanced to the championship game in 2011 before losing to Page County.

Clymore started the game on the mound, but walked four batters in 1.0 innings of work. Whitehead relieved him and gave up just two hits in 5.0 innings in earning the victory.

Cody Swisher had three hits, and Chance Staton and Logan Wolfe each drove in two runs to lead the offense for Riverheads.

Dalton Dahley took the loss on the mound with a complete-game nine-hitter. He gave up five runs, four earned.
