Baseball All-Area First Team
Reid Entsminger - Sherando - Junior - Pitcher
The Northwestern District Player of the Year, Entsminger went 8-0 with 42 strikeouts and a 0.53 ERA. He struck out 10 in the Warriors win over Amherst in the state semifinal, earned first team Region II honors and was named to the Group AA second team.
John Bentley - Sherando - Senior - Pitcher
The Northwestern District Pitcher of the Year, Bentley went a perfect 10-0 with a save, posting a 0.58 ERA over 60 innings with 84 strikeouts while hitting .385 with 26 RBIs. He was selected to the All-Region II first team and received Group AA honorable mention honors.
Chase Smallwood - Sherando - Junior - Catcher
The area’s only Group AA first team selection, Smallwood hit .438, slugged four home runs and had a team-leading 34 RBIs. He also threw a perfect game against Brentsville during the regular season and was an All-Northwestern District and All-Region II first team selection.
Justin Angel - Sherando - Senior - First baseman
Angel was one of four Sherando players to hit .400 or better, finishing with 10 doubles, 22 RBIs and 18 runs scored. He was named to the All-Northwestern District and All-Region II first teams and was a Group AA second team selection.
Jacob Carney - Sherando - Senior - Second baseman
Carney led the Warriors in batting average (.443), hits (39), doubles (22) and runs scored (34) and also added 27 RBIs. He was selected to the All-Northwestern District and All-Region II first teams.
Jacob Rudolph - Handley - Senior - Shortstop
Rudolph led the area with a .468 batting average and had a team-best .554 on-base percentage and .638 slugging percentage. He made the All-Northwestern District first team and was selected to the All-Region II second team.
Trenton Burgreen - Millbrook - Freshman - Third baseman
Burgreen hit .340 with 17 hits and 16 runs scored and helped the Pioneers qualify for the regional playoffs. He was a unanimous All-Northwestern District first team selection.
Reid Entsminger - Sherando - Junior - Outfielder
Entsminger hit .417 with 25 RBIs and 11 doubles and both of his home runs on the season were grand slams. He delivered the game-winning hit in the Warriors’ Region II semifinal win over Powhatan.
Adam Whitacre - Sherando - Sophomore - Outfielder
Whitacre finished the season with a .308 batting average, 16 RBIs and 28 runs scored. He also struck out 28 over 281/3 innings with a 2.47 ERA and earned second team All-Northwestern District honors.
Jeb Brown - Sherando - Senior - Outfielder
A second team All-Northwestern District selection, Brown hit .372 with 29 hits, 21 RBIs and 13 runs scored and drove in the first two runs in Sherando’s state semifinal win over Amherst.
Keith Hummer - Clarke County - Senior - Designated hitter
Hummer finished with a team-best .426 batting average, tied for the team lead in hits (26) and added 13 RBIs and six doubles. He was the only Eagle selected to the All-Bull Run District first team.
Taylor Loudan - Sherando - Senior - Utility
Loudan batted leadoff for the Warriors and hit .295 with 28 hits and 12 RBIs. He was second in runs scored (32) and stolen bases (9) and went 2-0 with seven strikeouts. He was a second team All-Northwestern District member.
All kidding aside congrats to all who were named to the Winchester Star All-Area Team. I can't see any arguments in for any of the selections.
