Can someone explain how a winless Rapp team that got blown out by WP 40-13 beat WnL 20-0, after WnL beat WP last week 50-33? This has to be the biggest upset of the year so far. There is absolutely no way WnL loses to Rapp unless some kids were absent or something. Can someone shed some light on this?

Rapp played better defense. Stuffed run all night long. W&L offense made several blunders when they were in Rapp territory...ball snapped over quarterbacks head at least 3 times. 3 or 4 big drive killing sacks.

Fact is a lot of teams in the Northern Neck and Tidewater are going through a down year. W&L lost a lot of players plus their coach last year and are basically in rebuilding mode. Rappahannock is also rebuilding as well. West Point only lost one player from last year's team which gives them a little more experience.

Sometimes it's about matchups and not how good the team is. I give you last night on my end. Sussex Central steamrolled Charles City last week but Franklin struggled against Charles City. Traditionally Franklin always gives Sussex problems as well. Those two teams play in about three weeks so that matchup will be one of high stakes as both may be undefeated at that time.

OK Two by four, we can put Rapp's game Friday night as " Upset" weekend
For the East. I was also shocked by Essex lose, not so much the lose itself, but
By the margin. I guess EssexTrojan1 is still throwing up this morning.
I Still am not giving up on Essex. Once they get into District play, and get
Through these much larger schools, they will be OK come November. But,
I agree the Rapp game was a shocker.

I totally agree with you here. It's about match up & young players getting better as the season progresses. Another thing is Rapp still is not playing with their top 2 returning backs. If they can comeback, that should make them a better team.

The NNK & Tidewater Races will be interesting this year, it's looking to be a fun stretch run.

There is nothing interesting about either races. Essex will dominate and despite being down, nobody is coming close to winning the tidewater other than King William. The race is for second place.

Dringtuoti I'll have to disagree with you on at least the nnd race. I may eat my words later but Essex isn't playing to well right now. I know they are playing bigger schools but look at the margin of score. Once district play starts I know Essex will step up as they do every year. But Northumberland has depth and Colonial Beach has speed both are playing some good football. I think one them could dethrone Essex this year if they keep it going.

just to throw this out there but franklin played colonial beach last Friday night four days later they traveled to arcadia played them on Tuesday then turned around and traveled to Charles city on last night those guys where worn out with little preparation they were out there winging it I'm not making excuses but a well rested franklin team the game would not have been close at all

As one of the Franklin coaches told me... "How is Charles City 1-3?"

Franklin rested their starters on Tuesday. They were up 38-0 at halftime against Arcadia. Franklin's flaw against Charles City is that they fumbled four times and muffed a kickoff return. Charles City played well and stood their ground on four goal line stands.

Trust me Franklin is good and rest may have helped, but this was the first time I've seen Charles City play a complete game this year.

Charles City and West Point are both capable of pulling off an upset here.

That's good Charles city football program is headed in right direction if they can control the penalties and turnovers they should be ok

I'm here. Just been busy today. Up here in the Fairfax VA area for the evening. I was disappointed in my Trojans performance last night. The DC didn't coach the D last night. He didn't make it to the game due to a personal engagement. To me, that played a part in the poor showing on defense. They just looked lost without him...along with the poor tackling. As for offense, I say go back to the spread a little more. Tired of seeing teams load 10 or 11 in the box on us. The QB looked better in the King William game and Deep Run game the few times he has passed. At least that will keep teams from loading the box on us. Just my thoughts. I still say we will run the table in the NND. Last year guys were hyping up Northumberland because of their start. Just like last year, I'm not buying it.

I'm not buying "Rap just showed up and played better defense" but whatever. There had to be some personnel changes on both sides for them to blank WnL. IF that's the case, Rapp moves way up in the district. CC and WP can play with anyone. WP spotted Surry 12 points in the 1st qtr before Surry offense stepped on the field, kick return and fumble return. WP outplayed them the rest of the way 4tds to 2, losing by basically a blocked xp.

While I believe this would be the year to get King William, there is still very little chance anyone in tidewater beats them. Charles city has the best opportunity because they have better athletes, however if it is a tight game pressure will get to them and results will be the same.
Essex schedule is brutal. I know it's a weak deep run team but they are still division 5 and have over 1000 more kids in their school than Essex. Northumberland has best chance but just like Charles city will buckle in a close game. They can say Charles city played well but they rushed for negative yards vs. Franklin. Bottom line its Essex and King William at the top by far, then next level Northumberland, Charles city, colonial beach, Washington and lee, West Point (in that order). Rest really poor.

ET1 do you remember the first two games in the spread? Essex had to try something to give time for their young, inexperienced QB; and they scored some and beat King William. I do not think it would have mattered what they ran against Deep Run (the best team Essex has faced so far IMO). They show flashes of being a good team, and then not so much. Have a bye week and take on James Monroe. Essex will be able to slightly breathe then, but not much. I was really worried about this schedule with this team coming into the season, but hopefully they will continue to improve as a team and play hard. I still think they will run the table in the district, but they will have to get better everyday.

I remember those 1st 2 games. I still say the few times he passed in these last 2 games were better than the 1st 2. Even if you not gonna throw still set up in. At least it gets some guys on D out of the box to better your chances at a ground game.

Maybe the pass was more open because everyone was more worried about the run? Either way I agree they need to find a balance, and I think they will. It is a young team overall and they have played the hardest schedule in school history. I just don't want to see the guys lose confidence because of it. They are a tough group and the road will be tougher than usual, but you know the old saying "gotta beat the best to be the best".
