Game Recap Woodside beats Matoaca and Princess Anne

Woodside won two games on Wednesday defeating Princess Anne 8-7 and Matoaca 9-3. Both games were played at Christopher Newport University.

In th 1st game, the Wolverines were out-hit 13-7 but three Princess Anne errors led to three unearned runs. Woodside found themselves trailing 4-0 heading into the bottom of the 3rd inning but scored the next eight runs to lead 8-4 after six innings.

Princess Anne scored three runs in the top of the 7th inning after RBI singles from Zack Will, Derek Ringer and Jake Crumbly but they came up one run short when Woodside pitcher Zach Sanders got the final out. Both Ringer and Cameron Reckling contributed three hits with Reckling adding three runs scored.

Stephen Strout relieved Tyler Stevens and allowed only one hit and no runs in two innings. Stevens was the batting star going 3 for 4 from the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Chris Henley added two hits and scored three runs.

Woodside also trailed Matoaca rallying from a 3-1 deficit after the first two innings. After tying the score at three, Woodside took the lead for good when Davon Parson smashed a hit to left scoring all three baserunners for a 6-3 Mavericks lead. Nate Freed followed with a run scoring single scoring Parson from second base. Freed finished the game with two hits and two RBI.

Parson added an RBI in the 6th inning when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. He finished with four RBI. The last run was scored via a wild pitch. Tyler Stevens drove in two runs despite not being credited with a hit. Elijah Welcher and Zach Sanders each had two hits and two runs scored.
