Format for 2014 VHSL state basketball tournament
When the membership considered various options for the 2014 VHSL State Basketball Tournament at Group Board meetings earlier this month, the feedback was evenly divided. The options were also reviewed at the recent VIAAA Conference, and Option 1 seemed to be favored by a majority of athletic directors. Because sites need to be secured soon, the Executive Committee was polled, and 15 supported Option 1; 3 supported Option 2; and 5 supported Option 3. Therefore, staff is proceeding with arrangements based on the following format:
OPTION 1 ? Use two weekends, one for semifinals at supersite locations, and one for finals at a single location ( Siegel Center ). The semifinals would be played on Friday or Saturday of the first week. The finals would be played in two-game sessions, two sessions (4 games) each day for three days (Thurs., Fri., Sat.) of the second week. The basketball calendar would be as follows:
First Contest ? Dec. 2, 2013 (Mon. of Week 22 ? NFHS Standard Weeks Calendar)
Conference Tournament ? Feb. 17-22, 2014 (Week 33)
Region Deadline ? Mar. 1, 2014 (Sat. of Week 34)
State Semifinals ? Mar. 7-8, 2014 (Fri./Sat. Week 35)
State Finals ? Mar. 13-15, 2014 (Thurs./Fri./Sat. Week 36)
