Congrats to all the winners, medalists, and competitors. JMU's Sentara Park is beautiful and even though we had had some rain, it was a great day for the meet.
A special congratulations goes out Dan River's boys and girls as they each took home gold medals on the day. The girls track team won their first even state title in an event as the Wildcats won the 4x800 relay. For the boys, freshman Asa Fletcher completed an unbeaten season in the 1600 as he held off Glenvar's Daniel Zearfoff to win his first state title in his state debut. Fletcher also led off the Wildcats 4x400 relay team, along with TyLyric Coleman, Terrance Williams, and UVA-Wise bound Robert Carter Jr. Carter, who took 4th in the long jump and 5th in both the 100 and 200, closed out his DRHS career with an epic comeback on the final leg as he caught passed the runner from Bruton just ahead of the finish line to win his first state title.
