6A State Championship Game Live: Oscar Smith(13-0) v. Westfield(13-1)

Oscar Smith and Westfield are now on the field.. as the 5A Champion Highland Springers leave the field having beaten Stone Bridge 27-7.

Begs the question, who do we crown next? One Bulldog has lost today, will Westfield be the next or can they tame the Oscar Smith Tigers?

Oscar Smith is a perfect 13-0 but had two close wins; 15-14 over Indian River and the next week 23-21 over Western Branch.

Westfield lost to South County 19-26 in the second game of the season and had a close one against James Robinson which they won 3-0.

Both Westfield and Oscar Smith have two state titles each but Oscar Smith has 1 loss, Westfield has never lost a championship game.

Light are on, it might be daylight right now but by the time this thing ends it will be night and the 2015 season of VHSL football will have come to a close. 40 minutes till game time and Oscar Smith & Westfield fans pale in comparison to the contingency we saw from Highland Springs.

Westfield student section is in full force however, looks to be a white-out.

Oscar Smith has returned to the locker room early whereas Westfield is still out on the field getting in all the practice they can. This should be a good one.

As the sunsets on a beautiful day here in Charlottesville the Oscar Smith band takes the field while Westfield's cheerleaders wait patiently at the endzone with banner in hand ready for their team to come out in just a few short minutes.

That's 3 straight passes, 3 straight first downs. Oscar Smith having little trouble moving the ball on Westfield to open this game.

Timothy Beard has carried the Bulldogs to another first down. Bulldogs trying to be the first to score after intercepting Oscar Smith on the opening possession.

Rehman Johnson takes a hard tackles but it's enough for the first down moving those chains as Westfield continues their drive.

Beard keeps pushing and powers the Bulldogs into the endzone to put Westfield up early, 7-0 with 6:26 to go in the first quarter.

We will see how Oscar Smith responds on offense after that early interception. Do they stick with the pass or do they go a bit conservative with the run game and not risk another interception?

Good job on the updates Dan.

Oscar Smith came out throwing while Westfield went to the smash mouth approach on their first scoring drive.

The answer you are looking for is pass as Oscar Smith moves the ball out to the 41 and then they go to the run game with Kourtney Johnson carrying the ball.

much to the approval of Oscar Smith fans, the flag on the field goes against Westfield. Oscar Smith has the ball at the 48 of Westfield with a fresh set of downs.

Mitchell sacked looking for an open man for a loss of four yards and then hits his man with a short pass that is dropped.

Mitchell takes another hit, this one comes from Jonathan Aiello. Westfield takes over on downs at the Oscar Smith 45

Watch out! Westfield is up 14-0 after Rehman Johnson takes off on a 45 yard run... Westfield 2-0 in state championship games is looking pretty good early with a 14-0 lead.

Oscar Smith needs a score sooner rather than later. With 3:35 to go in the first quarter there is still a lot of game left but with Westfield up early 14-0, Oscar Smith cannot continue to be scoreless while Westfield has little trouble scoring.

3rd & 5 from the 25, big play in the game as not to give the ball back to Westfield. Mitchell however throws it away as he is nearly sacked and Oscar Smith is punting. Westfield looking good on both sides of the ball early on.

Westfield is again moving the ball as the Bulldogs have another first down, ball at the 34 of Oscar Smith and Timothy Beard takes the ball to the 14 picking up 20 yards in the process!

An incomplete pass for Westfield brings out the field goal unit but the field goal is unsuccessful and Oscar Smith dodges falling deeper in a hole.

Oscar Smith just cannot get it going on offense as they are again punting... but as Lee Corso would say, "not so fast my friend". Westfield gets hit with a roughing the kicker penalty and the Tigers will have the ball at the 33 with a fresh set of downs.

The roughing the kicker call could prove costly to Westfield as Oscar Smith's passing game has come back to life and the ball is to the 37 of Westfield.

A huge pass to Khalik Perry sees the receiver avoid tackles and stay on his feet to find the endzone... OScar Smith now trails 7-14... How huge is that penalty for roughing the kicker now?

Oscar Smith down a touchdown needs to keep Westfield from being able to move down the field. Have not been able to do it yet this game.
