Defending D2 State champion Bishop Sullivan defeated St Anne's-Belfield 45-28 in an early season matchup of 2013 playoff teams. The teams combined for 735 yards from scrimmage and the game took three hours to complete. Quarterback Blake LaRussa passed for 270 yards and four touchdown passes for the Crusaders who improved to 3-1 on the season.

The Crusaders pulled away in the second half extending a 4-point margin to 45-21 with three straight touchdowns. Running back Kevin Hicks broke thru the line for a 34-yard touchdown run after a St Anne's-Belfield fumble and then he scored on a 60-yard run with 5:44 to go in the 3rd quarter to give the Crusaders a 32-21 lead. Hicks finished with 14 carries for 154 yards and three touchdowns.

On the next series, George Wahee almost turned a screen into a touchdown but he did setup a C.J Epps 2-yard touchdown run. Wahee also had a hand in the Crusaders final score showing great concentration securing a 39-yard reception while falling down. LaRussa connected with Nick Pearce for a second touchdown early ion the 4th quarter.

The first half was a tale of two quarters with Bishop Sullivan winning the 1st quarter and St Anne's-Belfield winning the second. The Crusaders jumped out to an 18-0 lead scoring the first three times the had the football. Hicks accounted for 54 yards on the first series capping off the drive with a 10-yard touchdown run. It took only two plays for Bishop Sullivan to reach the endzone a second time with LaRussa connecting with George Wahee for a 34-yard touchdown strike with 5:13 to go.




St Ann's-Belfield was missing their top three running backs to injury and took a quarter to get their offense in gear. Lee Parkhill directed an 11-play drive finding Rob Schotta for the Saints first score and he found Campbell Miller all alone for a touchdown just before the half to cut the lead to 18-14. Receiver Kadeem Harrison made a beautiful two-handed touchdown in the third quarter and he finished with four catches for 65-yards. St Ann's-Belfield added a late touchdown on a run by Jamil Wilson.
