Senior running back Imir Clark gashed Altavista to advance the Tigers.

SUSSEX- Altavista had came off the upset of William Campbell and everyone was expecting and tight game that would go down to the wire. Their expectations were became reality early as the Colonels struck first as Jayllen Jones would display his speed race 29 yards for the touchdown that put them up 7-0 with 9:28 to play in the first quarter.

Sussex Central will come right back as Tyree Rose would have a physical run going past and through defenders setting up Imir Clark's 2 yard touchdown run. Rose would get the conversion. Sussex Central would go up 8-7 at the 7:52 mark in the 1st.

The Tigers got a wake up call early when Jayllen Jones raced to the endzone.

Altavista would fumble at their own 18 and the Tigers would recover. Clark would answer on the very next play. The senior running back would go in from 18 yards out without any trouble to extend the lead 14-7 Tigers with 4:18 to go in the first.

The Colonels would not fold as Jones would catch the Tigers blowing coverage deep as Baily Stinnette would haul in a 36 yard touchdown pass from Jones. Isaac Quishpe would nail the extra point to tie game 14-14 with 57 seconds left in the opening quarter.

Rose would break loose again but this time he would not be caught as he pulled away from the Colonels for a 35 yard touchdown run. Sussex Central would go back up 20-14. Junior quarterback Tyree Rose was a nightmare for the Colonels defense all night.

Altavista would try to get their passing game going again after Stinnette converted on 3rd down. The Colonels would cough up the ball and the Tigers would recover at the own 45 yard line. Sussex Central would drive into Altavista territory in no time and Clark would get in from 10 yards out for his 3rd touchdown with 2:57 left before the half to make it 34-14. The two go into halftime with that score.

The 2nd half started off ending any promise of a comeback as a pop up kick-off would fall into the hands of Xavier Benjamin who would find a seam and go 54 yards for the return for a touchdown. Rose would run the conversion and with 6 seconds into the 2nd half, Sussex Central led 42-14.

Not without flaws, Sussex Central's secondary would blow coverage on the deep ball again as Kavion Davis would connect for a 50 yard touchdown pass from Jones to make it 42-21 with 9:39 to play in the 3rd. Following the Colonels failed drive Jaylin Prosise would have a strong 25 yard run to make it 48-21 with 3:46 to go in the 3rd quarter.

In the 4th the two squads would exchange scores as Malik Chambliss would go in from 15 yards out to make it 54-21. Jones would hit Davis again for a 26 yard touchdown pass with 9:28 to play in the game. The Tigers would run the clock on the rest of the game with a long possession as their attention shifts to the Region B championship.

Tyson Garrett makes sure Jones would not get to the edge on a big 3rd down.

Coach Andy Cox has the young Colonels looking quite improved despite their ending record of 4-8. Most of Altavista's woes can be credited from being in a tough Dogwood district. Look for them to be much more improved next season.

Sussex Central (10-2) will now travel to face Riverheads (12-0) in their longly anticipated battle. The Tigers have improved tremendously from last season but are they ready to give Zach Smiley and the Gladiators a challenge who crushed district mate Franklin 59-6.
