Collegiate trailed 26-7 with eight minutes to go in the 3rd quarter but roared back to defeat Trinity Episcopal 34-26 to win their season opener. Quarterback Will Allocca gained 218 yards on 17 carries including four touchdowns for Collegiate who used a new offensive formula to grab the win.

The Cougars have been a pass first team since the days of current Seattle Seahawk quarterback and Collegiate alum Russell Wilson. However, they attempted only 10 passes as Allocca and running back Evan Dean (20 carries, 153 rushing yards) used a power run game that produced close to 400 yards rushing.

"Yes we had some good quarterbacks in the past," Collegiate head coach Marfk Palyo said. "The quarterback we have now is pretty darn good. What we try to do is go where our personnel allows us to go. We might may run it a little bit more but we're not afraid to put it up too."

The key play in the game may have been a roughing the passer personal foul issued to Collegiate after tackling Trinity Episcopal quarterback Blake Bowen who had passed for 291yards and four touchdown passes. He was not able to return to the game and that left left the Titans offense in disarray totaling only 37 total yards the rest of the game.

Meanwhile, Allocca caught fire scoring on a 70-yard touchdown run to cut the deficit to 26-14 and he run up the middle for a 17-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Allocca directed an 11-play, 95-yard drive that ended with a 16-yad scamper for a score. Nicholas Anders stopped a Trinity Episcopal rally with an interception and Allocca added a fourth touchdown with 26-seconds to go to provide the final margin.

It was a disappointing end for the Titans who seemingly had an upset within their grasp. Jack Freudenthal finished with nine receptions for 128 yards and Trevion Armstrong added four receptions for 52 yards and two touchdowns. Trinity Episcopal capitalized on two second quarter fumbles by Dean to score two touchdowns in the final minute of the 1st half.
Freudenthal scored the games first touchdown on a floater down the middle of the field for a 41-yard score to extend the lead to 20-7 at halftime.

Allocca said the Cougars didn't get down at halftime after falling behind by two scores.

"We knew what we did wrong and we knew we could fix them," he said. "We have a brotherhood. We just had to keep our heads up and come out and play Cougar football."
