Gar-Field Class of 2021 linebacker Mason Woods - the reigning Cardinal District Defensive Player of the Year - has given a pledge to play his College Football in the Sun Belt for the Warhawks of Louisiana-Monroe.

Don't be surprised if UL-Monroe is able to land another prospect or two from the Commonwealth. It's the first from the state of Virginia for Head Coach Matt Viator. They're hoping a player like Woods can help them limit some of the explosive plays by opposing offenses.

While UL-Monroe ranked 17th in FBS College Football in total offense during the 2019 campaign, their defense placed 127th or worse nationally in points allowed, stopping the run and total yards surrendered.

Viator has kept UL-Monroe competitive in the Sun Belt with three consecutive 4-4 league marks. But with schools like Appalachian State - which has secured multiple commits from Lord Botetourt and Ibri Harrell from Phoebus - as well as Coastal Carolina mining the state of Virginia, the Warhawks recognize it's an area that can pay dividends for them on the recruiting front.
