The Petersburg Elite 15u team continues to build an impressive resume full of wins against tough AAU competition. The team followed up their 15u AAU State Championship with a final four finish in the Southern Invitational. A semifinal loss to tournament runner?up DC Assault ended a weekend of superb basketball by the three guard trio of Willie Mangum, Frank Mason and Micah Thomas. After dominating pool play, the team faced off with North Carolina 15u AAU State Champion, Garner Road in the quarter finals. Clutch shooting and stifling defense allowed Petersburg to build a nine point lead in the final 3 minutes of a tightly contested game. The team then hit several free throws down to stretch to secure the ten point win. After starting the semi-final game on the wrong end of a 21-6 run and a 13 point halftime deficit, the tenacious Petersburg squad battled back to take a one point lead in final three minute. Down the stretch DC Assault simply made better plays and escaped with a six point victory.
