In one of the most stunning results this postseason, the #3 seed Deep Run Wildcats eliminated the #2 seed Highland Springs Springers, 47-45, in the semifinals of the Conference 11 Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Lee-Davis High School.

Deep Run, which was beaten 65-28 by the Springers back on January 5th, led by as many as 10 before losing the lead in the fourth quarter. However, the Wildcats recovered to notch the first ever win over Highland Springs in school history.

Leading the way for Deep Run, which is now 19-5 overall and has won 14 straight, was junior guard Jorge Pacheco with 12 points. Blake King added 10 points.

For Highland Springs in defeat, Na'Quon Trapp with 12 points, while A.J. Gaston and Mike'l Simms provided support with 10 apiece. The Springers' season ends at 19-4 overall.

Among Highland Springs' victories this season reigning 3A State Champ John Marshall, defending 5A State Champ Potomac and perennial contender Booker T. Washington in the VirginiaPreps.com Classic at Virginia Wesleyan College.

Coach George Lancaster, who is second among all active VHSL coaches in victories with 692, has indicated he plans to return for a 37th season at the helm of the Springers for 2015-16.

Coach Curt Kassab's Wildcats face Henrico in the Conference 11 Tournament Championship on Monday night at Hermitage High School. Both teams will move on to the Group 5A-South Region Tournament that is set to begin this Thursday, also at Hermitage.
