Last week's winners did not really surprise me, despite my picks being wrong on 3 of the 4 games. It was the margins of victory that were surprising. LB only scoring two. South Lakes pitching a shut out and blowing out Madison. Hylton jumping all over Freedom and holding them to half their average. Westfield winning by 29 and really limiting what Patriot could do on offense.

Three more games to go in this contest - here are this week's two games.

Hylton (-4) at Woobridge

South Lakes at Westfield (-3)

Some questions:

South Lakes and Westfield are playing for the Northern Region championship, right? Or are they playing for Class 6A Region D championship?

Hylton and Woodbridge are playing for the Northwestern Region championship, right? Or are they playing for Class 6A Region C championship?

Who plays against who in the state semifinal games next week?

Thanks in advance for the answers.

To answer the first two questions, yes. When VHSL went back to the four regions it resulted in 4 regional champions being decided in week 3 of the playoffs. For the past two years they referred to it as a "region championship" since there were only two regions, but that game was also the state semifinal (week 4 of the playoffs). This year it is more like what we are all used to, with this week determining the region champion who will move on to the state semifinal.

For your third question, VHSL decided regions A&B will match up this year, as will regions C&D (the reasons: less travel, more gate). The team with the higher ratings points (regular season) hosts. In our area, that will mean the winner of CDH (29.9) vs Woodbridge (31.8) will travel to the winner of SL (32.6) vs Westfield (36.6).
