Head basketball coach Barren Holmes was killed in a car accident this morning. I don't know any further details. He had two stints as coach at Essex and also coached at King and Queen quite a few years as well. He was the epitome of an old school coach. He came off to many as rough around the edges, but he always looked out for the best interests of his players. I recall him telling me many times when he was at K&Q how he would take players home from practice and even open up his home to them on weekends just so he and his wife would know where they were at. This one hurt to hear and he will be greatly missed.
