It’s all about the playoffs now! Not as hard as it use to be in the 80s and 90s where only 4 teams from each region made it in but with only half the field the pressure is now on. Several big games across the region as the regular season begins to wind down.
Can the Indians be physical enough to hand with a talented and aggressive Drifter squad?
NORTHUMBERLAND (5-2) at COLONIAL BEACH (4-3)
The Drifters need this win to try to have a chance to have a home game in the playoffs. Colonial Beach is much better than their record indicates. You can expect them to cause a lot of first round stress but for now its sights are on the Indians. Northumberland features one of the most exciting players in the region Delvin Palmer but they will need to play better defense in order to come out on top.
PREDICTION: Colonial Beach 30 Northumberland 28
GREENSVILLE COUNTY (5-2) at FRANKLIN (2-5)
Franklin faces a must win Friday night versus the Eagles or they are likely to be staying home this offseason. The Broncos are a different team that can throw the ball very well now in addition to the next sensation at running back in LaSean Nichols-Porter. The Eagles are much more dynamic on offense and that will push Franklin to the limit in this crucial contest.
PREDICTION: Franklin 44 Greensville County 38
The Sussex Central rushing attack will need to deliver. Trevon Hatch will need to be big.
SUSSEX CENTRAL (6-1) at BRUNSWICK (2-4)
A trip to Lawrenceville is never an easy task for the Tigers who have seen it all with their visits to Brunswick. Jadeen Person is the big athletic quarterback with a strong arm that will be trying to test the Tigers secondary. Sussex Central is now at full strength on offense and that will put plenty of strain on the Bulldogs defense. A win should take the Tigers back to the top spot in the Region A 1A playoff seed race.
PREDICTION: Sussex Central 34 Brunswick 12
MIDDLESEX (4-3) at KING WILLIAM (2-5)
There are several improved teams in Region A and the Chargers of Middlesex are definitely one. The Chargers will be hoping to catch the Cavaliers looking ahead to West Point next week. Marc Gresham and company will be looking to get their 3rd straight victory that will set them up for a playoff win and in next week. King William maybe young but for this one….they are ready.
PREDICTION: King William 40 Middlesex 26
