REGION A SPOTLIGHT[/B]

A few performances stood out among many this week. Today we take a look at the young men who pushed a little more to get the result their craved. Before we get into the big games for this week, take the time to cherish these outputs.

OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Lamar Lucas COLONIAL BEACH Lucas carried 23 times for 217 and rushed for 4 touchdowns. He also threw a touchdown pass which was the only completion for the Drifters in their big time when over Franklin. The sophomore sensation has accounted for 12 touchdowns in two games.

Marsh is a tremendous athlete at quarterback that will be put to work this Friday in West Point.[/B]

Timothy Marsh Jr. SURRY COUNTY Surry's version of RG3 continues to electrify the Cougars offense. Marsh rushed for 132 yards including a 95-yard highlight run. He also threw for 102 yards and 2 touchdowns.



DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Smallwood will be key to Surry's success down the road. [/B]

Steve Smallwood Jr. SURRY COUNTY The top rated linebacker in 1A shined with 6 tackles (5 for losses) on limited play Friday night. Smallwood also got a pick six on the night showing his balance as a great linebacker. Smallwood ran in a score as well.

Sterling Hammond ESSEX Hammond roamed the field like a lion patrolled its territory leading his defense to a shutout of one the most impressive offenses of this early season. One of the top safeties east of the Mississippi, Hammond also rushed a td. Essex rolled 35-0.
