Salem High School Class of 2022 DB/WR Chauncey Logan Jr. has seen his recruitment rise since February, which strangely enough was the beginning of his junior season. Ordinarily, one's season would've started in late August or early September, but because of COVID-19 prompting the Virginia High School League to move Fall Sports - including football - towards the spring time with an abbreviated campaign it took some time for the 6-foot-1, 185-pound athlete to get on the radar of some schools at the next level.

Army, Bucknell, Campbell, Dartmouth, Fordham, Georgetown, Lehigh, Rhode Island, William & Mary were among the offers he picked up in the past five months. However, three days following an offer from perennial FCS national contender James Madison University, he wasted no time deciding where to play his College Football.

Logan committed to Coach Curt Cignetti and the Dukes of JMU on Monday, July 26th. In doing so, he became the third commitment in four days for JMU. Of their nine verbals, five hail from the state of Virginia with Patrick Henry-Ashland WR Jayden Mines, DT's Tyrique Tucker (once of Lake Taylor) and Ike Thompson from Life Christian, and Stone Bridge OG Carter Sweazie.

Last season, Logan filled a variety of roles - quarterback, wide receiver, cornerback and even punter - for the Spartans as they rallied to beat Lake Taylor 28-20 to capture the VHSL Class 4 State Championship and cap an unbeaten 10-0 campaign.

At quarterback, Logan completed 18 of 40 passes for 352 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions. When he moved to wide receiver, he proved equally, if not more, effective with nine catches for 188 yards and three touchdowns, highlighted by a 67-yard scoring reception that put his team ahead for good at Lake Taylor.

JMU likes his length and athleticism, assets which can serve him well in a boundary corner role. Yet, if it turns out the Dukes need him to play on the offensive side of the ball at receiver, he's fully capable of doing that well with his skill-set and dedication to continue to improve.

"Chauncey Logan is an outstanding young man with strong character and athletic ability. He works tremendously hard at his craft, each day," Salem Head Coach Don Holter told VirginiaPreps.com. "He is a leader on and off the field for us. I am extremely proud of him as a man and player."

Before heading off to Harrisonburg, Logan will be a valuable playmaker in all three phases of the game as Salem seeks an 11th State Championship.
