Final - Norview 55, Maury 46

The Norview Pilots pushed their record to 11-2 overall with a 55-46 triumph over the host Maury Commodores in a key Conference 9 clash seen on live television on Cox 11 and the Hampton Roads Sports Network. Norview trailed by as many as 11 in the second quarter, but went on a 13-3 run to tie the game in the first half and outscored Maury 32-21 in the second half.

Leading the way for Norview was junior forward Lamont Steward, who scored a team-high 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting. Steward also blocked three shots. Another junior forward, Jaylen Frazier, chipped in 14 points, six rebounds and three assists for a Pilots team shot it much better over the game's final two quarters.

In the first half, the Pilots converted only 45.5% of their field goals (10-of-22) and went 1-for-10 from three-point territory. But in the second half, Norview went 13-of-21 from the field (61.9%) and made 2-of-3 behind the arc. Damion Madison made his return after missing the previous two games due to a separated shoulder and had seven points and five rebounds. Greg Heckstall added nine points and fellow senior Daevon Brown grabbed eight rebounds.

For Maury in defeat, sophomore point guard Matt Coleman got off to a hot start with four points and four assists in the opening period in bolting his team to a 16-6 lead. Coleman would end up with a game-high 20 points on 7-of-19 shooting, handed out seven assists and made four steals.

Even with guard David Reed supplying nine of his 13 points in the first half and junior forward Anthony Williams nearly recording a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds, Coleman didn't get quite enough help to keep pace with the Pilots. Maury failed to get any points from their subs and finished 6-of-12 from the foul line and hit on just 32% of their field goal tries in the second half.

Norview, which blew a 16-point lead to Henrico in a 66-64 loss this past Saturday in the 7th Annual VirginiaPreps.com Classic, outscored Maury 38-20 in the painted area. They also had 17 fast-break points.

Maury, missing starting wing Daevon Young for the third straight game due to a sprained foot, drops to 9-3 overall. That puts the Commodores two games back of Conference 9 leaders Green Run and Kellam in the standings as well as one behind the Pilots.

Celeb Sightings: Two former NBA players that starred at the University of Virginia - current ODU assistant coach Bryant Stith and Cory Alexander - were in attendance on Tuesday night.
