Westfield came out of the gate fast and looked very good for the opening game of the season. The WF defense came up with two INTs and recovered two fumbles that they turned into touchdowns. Note: Apologies to the Patriot players listed here if I got the names incorrect. I only had older on-line rosters to try to determine their names.

WF's Duda took the opening KO 22 yards to the WF 47 yard line but WF failed to get a first down and punted into the PAT end zone. PAT then started on their 20 yard line and after three plays faced 4th and 1 at their 29 yard line. Electing to go for it, the pass from Knutsen fell incomplete and WF took over. WF quickly scored when Jenks went 12 yards on a QB keeper to put WF in front 7-0 (Nicklas XP) with 7:05 remaining in the first quarter. PAT went three and out on their next possession to give WF the ball on the WF 35 yard line. WF quickly struck again, this time on another Jenks keeper from 37 yards out around the left side and the lead extended to 14-0 (Nicklas XP) with 3:14 to play in the first quarter. PAT gained nothing on their third possession and punted again to the WF 26 yard line. WF's offense went to work again and reached the PAT 40 before they stalled and punted to pin PAT at their own 3 yard line. Knutsen fumbled the snap on the next play and WF's Rennyson fell on it in the end zone for a third score, 21-0 (Nicklas XP) with 8:20 left in the half. PAT's offense again failed to generate much and they were forced to punt again from deep in their end of the field, giving WF possession at midfield. WF gained a first down the faced 4th and 6 at the PAT 34 yard line, but PAT dropped Jenks after only a one yard gain and took over on their own 33 yard line. With time running down in the half, PAT's offense began to click and they reached around the WF 35-40 yard line before Knutsen threw a pass into the end zone that was intercepted by WF's Morin and returned 62 yards to the PAT 38 with 1:05 to go in the half. WF did not move the ball and eventually attempted a 40 yard Nicklas field goal that hit the left upright with less than 30 seconds left. The teams then went into the half with the score 21-0, WF.

PAT received the second half KO and started at their own 30 yard line. The PAT offense finally started clicking and they reached the WF 41 where PAT faced a 4th and 8. On the 4th down play Knutsen found Sarpong along the sideline for a 10 yard gain to keep the drive alive. A play or two later Knutsen found Hube on a post pattern and PAT scored to cut the lead to 21-7 (XP good) with 7:27 remaining in the third quarter. WF started their next drive on their own 38 yard line and reached the PAT 29 yard line before PAT's defense and an untimely penalty stalled the drive. The WF punt again pinned PAT deep, this time at the 4 yard line. PAT then drove 30 yards before a Knutsen pass over the middle was intercepted by WF's Richardson at the PAT 45 to give WF a chance to put the game away. WF drove to the PAT 11 yard line where Jenks converted a 4th and 4 before WF's Duda scored from 6 yards out the extend the lead to 28-7 (Nicklas XP) with 8:41 left in the game. On the ensuing KO the PAT receiver fumbled the ball and WF's Richardson recovered it at the PAT 19 yard line. A few plays later Jenks found Morin in the corner of the end zone with a 15 yard passing TD and the lead extended to 35-7 with 7:25 to play. PAT's drive drove to near midfield on their next possession before Knutsen was sacked on a 4th and 1 to close out PAT's last chance. WF then ran the ball to eat the clock for the final 4-5 minutes. Final 35-7. Westfield.
