WR Charlie Tiene who had never played QB on the varsity before, led Yorktown to a resounding victory over the Generals. Tiene who only started practicing full-time as QB on Wednesday, managed to learn almost the whole offense in four days. Hats off to Charlie who threw two TD passes with only one turnover for the game. Kudos to the Yorktown coaching staff who made the out of the box decision and prepared Tiene well. Third shout out goes to the Patriot D that forced six W-L turnovers, including three in Yorktown territory.
Yorktown scored on its first possession with Sean Coleman on the receiving end of a 22 yd. Tiene toss and the Generals answered with a 30 yd. FG. That was the last time the Generals entered the red zone for the entire game. Patriots led 7-3 at halftime. In the third quarter, Tiene hit Parker Dean on the dead run with a 32 yd. TD strike. Jack Storrs followed that with 65 yd. pick six at 5:47 in the third and a 18 yd. TD run to put Yorktown up 28-3 at the beginning of the fourth.
QB Joe McBride, who had done so much to bring Yorktown to this game with a 6-3 record, received the news late in the week that his knee injury was season ending.
