No one talks about Class 3

Hopewell lost to Mecklenburg County 20-14, not sure why there best receive cook didn't play but it showed.
Hopewell definitely shot themselves over and over with turnovers caused by them they had 6 fumbled balls 4of which were caused by themselves... QB TATUM looked awesome when they were able to get him on the field threw a 50 yd pass on the run that a kid ended up fumbling that would have gave them the lead

My takeaways from Week 2

1. Mecklenburg over Hopewell is the biggest shocker to me. That may end up as the best Piedmont win all year, pending GW beats Glass. I saw Mecklenburg scrimmage Dan River a few years back and thought, DAMN if these kids are coached up, they could make some noise. Them and Amherst should be a good one this Friday.

2. I think a huge difference in the 757 and 804 POWERS this year. Phoebus, Oscar Smith, and Maury are playing with A LOT of swag (confidence) whereas Dinwiddie, Varina, Highland Springs have had some flat moments. The 757 are UP on us. Phoebus took HS to the shed, Indian River beat Varina and Smith mopped the floor with Herm. The 757 is looking really good right now.

3. Big shoutout to Linwood Johnson. He took so much criticism last year at Varina, many (even myself) questioned why would he leave to split time with the freshman.. I think he proved he’s a gamer this past Saturday afternoon. 5 TDs, 10 for 14 passing for 200+ yards. Huguenot is going to be a tough out come November man…

4. Huge games this week. Fleming at Salem, Hermitage at Varina, & GW at Glass are my top 3 in no particular order.

Phoebus 23 Highland Springs 7 FINAL

We shall see. My problem with the whole “Hs ain’t that good this year” thing is they were predicted by everyone to beat a 3 time defending state champ returning 16/22 starters, and most had them predicted to win easily. Now they lost and I’m hearing talks that they aren’t that good this year, but this time last week some had them beating Phoebus by 21 smh. Even majority of 757 picked Highland Springs big.

I’m not saying you said the original predictions but i really wish people would keep the same energy because Springs will not look like they did Friday night against no one else besides maybe Maury. And even against Maury i expect their offense to look better. Maury will out score them for sure but they will not do the same thing Phoebus did. Springs was held to 4 rushing yards and 2 first downs for the game.
Go back and look at who I chose in pick em. I wasn’t one of them people and I knew yall would beat them by 2+ scores. HS isn’t the HS of old. That’s not taking anything away from y'all, they just don’t have an offensive identity. @rainman17 hit the hammer on the nail perfectly. Dinwiddie, Dale, Huguenot and I’d even say Varina is better than HS this year.

Phoebus 23 Highland Springs 7 FINAL

Don’t take what was said out of context this isn’t the same HSHS team which won nearly 4 straight titles. They still are good and better than most but you’re beginning to see the rest of the 804 teams gaining ground / having players stay home instead of going to the dominant program which is winning. Great win on the road for Phoebus but let’s be honest with ourselves talent goes in cycles … same way Phoebus has a couple of lean years between the 4 peat in the 2010ish range and the current streak. I’m just stating what I saw but to each their own with their observations.
My point is this wasn’t the general observation until Phoebus beat them. It’s unfair to really judge Springs off of Friday. They are a way better team than Phoebus made them look. And you’re right about the lean years but at Phoebus it was really a destroy and rebuild process that Blunt successfully pulled off. This defense most likely won’t be scored on until deep into the playoffs like the last two years.

You wild’n big dawg 😂 HS isn’t better than Huguenot and I got Varina over HS when they play in November. Maury is gonna do the same thing that Phoebus did to HS on Friday. This is a down year for the Springers.

I am not trashing Salem. They have a lot to be proud of. They obviously put a lot of effort into the stadium, seating, and field. I have no clue if they contract things out or not, but whoever runs the venue needs to evaluate things. I remember the concessions during the odac tournament at Moyer were awful as well. God bless them, but the two elderly women moved as slow as frozen molasses.

No need for niceties all the time. Only time things get fixed are when a bad light is shone upon it. The Lion's Club has an exclusive contract with the city for this stuff. I'm honestly wondering if it wouldn't serve the city better to just make a running tally each year and cut a check for that amount (which the LC does use for charity purposes for things within the city) and then allow booster clubs and whatnot to run the stands at games. Or if you can't do that then maybe talk to boosters or other volunteer organizations which might skew slightly younger in age by 3-5 decades and see if the LC and that organization can't reach a compromise whereby you get some youth running point at concessions and that org gets a split of that night's take. Think of revenue lost because of prior bad experiences. People spend too long and just say "I can make it through the second half, no biggie" because they'd rather watch the 3rd quarter hungry or thirsty than miss it at all.

If this game was any indication of potential draws for future RC home games, especially next year when they're playing DIII, then this has got to change by then or you're going to get lots of angry fans and people who will quit coming to games or who will simply not spend money on concessions. Even if they draw a third of what they did today that's an extra 15,000+ fans for the LC to rake in some cash from and redistribute to the community, that's sizable and that's just on the low end. This community supports well when given opportunities, home attendance could easily hit 30k+ a season for the college. Great stadium, extremely good parking with tons of ingress and egress, it makes you want to go see games and college kids are just looking for an excuse to tailgate. There's a lot of potential for good here in all avenues.

Their hearts are in the right place but this is a consistent complaint from practically everyone and it's past due for things to change. There has got to be a better solution.
