Thanks for your take on the game Mike and your honest opinion. Unfortunately we are not the Brookville of old anymore and I think a lot of Bees fans were expecting Lineburg to perform a miracle in a years time, just not gonna happen. And why in the world they keep scheduling you guys every year for a scrimmage or benefit game just goes beyond me. It does nothing but break the kids down to start the season every year.
I can see both sides. I think both coaching staffs know the other was going to be well coached, athletic and physical. So it was a good matchup for both. However your right when it gets to the point it has been the last few years it doesn’t do much for the losing side. You can only tell your kids so many times” keep your head up. Salem is one of the best teams in the state”. Problem is the Seminole is full of playoff teams that Brookville will see week in and week out.

Pick em Week 1 Comments

I tell you another one I pondered at length. Tucker and Caroline. Caroline was close last year. Usually I shy away from picking a team with a first year coach, but after watching an interview with him, I think he is the kind of guy that can get the best from his guys. I see you took Caroline, too.
Caroline brought back a nice little core. I think Tucker lost a bit. Tucker just doesn’t care about football. Their biggest win in probably 15+ years was them losing to that loaded Deep Run team during the COVID season by 2-3 points. Tucker should always be pretty good.

Roster lists him at 6'2" 275. That seems more accurate. I've seen him several times the last couple of weeks and he definitely doesn't look 6'6. He's still growing and ultimately he might end up that big, but not yet. He's a player though for sure!
He definitely has crazy potential. You can count the number of freshmen that have ever started on Salem's varsity roster on one hand and I'm pretty sure he is the only lineman to ever do this. Starts on defense and easily could start on offense too if they wanted him to.

Vance County (NC) needs a home game

Due to Granville Central (Stem, NC) canceling its football season this year, Vance County (Henderson, NC) needs a home game. Dates available are October 4th and October 18th. Contact AD Philip Weil, pweil@vcs.k12.nc.us if you know of an interested team. Thanks! Since Vance County borders the VA state line I figured it wouldn't be too far of a drive to Henderson, NC for teams that want to come and play. Thanks again!

Pick em Week 1 Comments

One of the games I was curious about is Louisa/PH-A. I heard from a pretty reliable source that Louisa is going to be down somewhat this year. And PH laid an egg last year. So who do you pick?
Well, it looks like from the picks that the brain trust is struggling too.

One thing that makes the first few weeks fun is all of the uncertainty. With no reliable track record except last year, and scrimmage information, it’s a crap shoot for many of the games.
I like Louisa DP. They seem to plug and play really well. PH looked very lackluster last year but they were young.

A game that’s not on pick em could surprise a lot of people is Indian River at Varina. I’m sure most would pick Varina but IR brings back some really good players off of their Regional Championship team.

@BoKnowsSports Go check out the 1st half of the Hermitage and Huguenot scrimmage when you get a chance.

Hermitage might be finally putting it together. They are ATHLETIC. They used a running QB and a throwing qb. I'm pretty sure the runner will be the starter. Also I'm pretty sure Andre Clark wasn't on the field.

Huguenot didn't look bad though. They will probably have to lean on the run early. Scott looked uncomfortable after throwing an early pick.

Hermitage went up 20-0 before Huguenot scored twice late in the 1st half. 20-16 starters vs starters.
I’m proud of what Jean Pierre is becoming as a coach. He’s had to learn by trial and error how to lead those guys but he’s a players’ coach and has had to find his way. When Dave Bedwell stepped down at Herm, he told the AD that JP should get the job to keep the program afloat. JP has done an excellent job of reloading that program. He’s in the building and attempts to be active in those kids lives on a daily basis. It’s a little unorthodox how that program is run, but he’s done a great job of putting the kids in the right position to be successful. Had a lot of riff raff on staff the first couple of years which led to their playoff demise. He’s gotten some consistency by hiring older coaches to mold those kids. Herm will definitely be in the conversation in November.

Andre Clarke, Ben Yeanay, Alijah Paige. Earl Winston and Dillan Webb may be the best group of skill guys that nobody knows about in the whole state of VA. I’d put them up with just about anyone.

Radford and Graham results

We didn't look to bad considering we had a bunch of new starters. Byrd beat us 4 Tds to none for the first half of starters. Byrd is an awesome team. I think the Bobcats are going to be better than expected. Byrd lost in the 3A semi's last season. Our QB is a new starter and is going to be good and we are going to move the ball on lots of teams when these new guys develop cohesion and timing. William Byrd looked better than any team we played last year.

Princeton, WV, the runner up WV AAA state champions beat Graham 3 tds to 2 tds in their one half scrimmage in Princeton. WV has now expanded to 4 classifications this season and Princeton will be a 3A school out of 4 total classifications and likely the early season AAA favorite in WV according to swvasports.com.
This is the best Princeton team I have ever seen in my 50 years of watching football in this area, they are big, physical and fast. Graham has good size, speed and athleticism as well. The running game is a bit of a concern for them at this point. They had trouble protecting the QB at times, but Princeton's line was massive and they had tremendous team speed Not likely to face that kind of pressure during the season. I think it will come down to Graham and Union in region D once again

@General172011, are you getting good vibes on this Dinwiddie team. I know the leadership and discipline is greatly improved from last season. Maybe just maybe the Generals will make a run. Lot of football to be played.
