MW Cross-Country excellence continues at the State Championship

Saturday, Nov. 11th, for the 20th consecutive year, the Lady Green Dragons of Maggie Walker had a team on the starting line of a VHSL State Championship Race. Over those 20 years, the classifications have changed, the athletes grow and move on as new generations rise to take their place and carry the legacy forward. While each year’s journey to the state meet has its own story, most of these stories (at least 14 of the 20) have ended on the Team Podium. This year’s end was no different:

We are asking for prayers for one of our
players, freshman Aiden Buckingham, and his
family.
Yesterday Aiden found out that he has a brain
tumor. Right now, all they know for certain is
that he has a pretty large tumor that is pushing
on his brain, causing some swelling.
He is in good spirits, which is no surprise for
those who know him.
He will be transported to
St. Judes soon, where they will come up with a
plan for treatment.
Please join us in praying for comfort and
complete healing for Aiden and his family
during this time.

Disagreeing with your crew

Are you ever in a situation where you and another official on the field see the same play and in your judgement there wasn't a penalty but another official throws a flag? As the head referee do you ever tell them "No" and pick up the flag? I've seen a couple of times where a seemingly out of position official has thrown a flag from very far away. Once was a guy on the line calling DPI 20 yards downfield while the downfield official was right there. Another was a back judge calling holding in the backfield on a running play.

Stuarts Draft vs Strasburg

Thoughts on this one?

Strasburg dominated East Rock and cruised to a 42-0 win. As normal the Rams defense was lights out and the offense did what it does ran the ball and limited mistakes to the one fumble.

Draft by the score looks like a dominating win against Clarke but all stats were even accept the turnovers Clarke had four. How good is Draft they are 8-3 and reading up a little the qb seems like a dangerous weapon. Are they more pass heavy or run heavy.

Should be a good one Friday in Strasburg. I am going 28-21 Rams if they can play a clean game. I will refer to @Gunz41 for more info on Draft since I do not have alot on them

Region D Final Scores from Today (Saturday)

Class 2

Gate City 21, Union 14.
Ridgeview 35, Tazewell 0
Lee High at Virginia High will be played later tonight

Class 1
Lebanon 51, Twin Springs 49

Gate City started out 0-2 and lost by 50 points to Radford. Lost the first game to Richlands who didn't make the playoffs, then has won 8 of 9 games and has beat Union twice this season. Gate City is starting to morph into the old Gate City many of us older generation folks are all too familiar with. The future looks very good in Gate City, VA, but that's next year's future. In the near future, Gate City travels to Mitchell Stadium to play Graham.

Trinity Episcopal 35 Potomac School 0

Trinity Episcopal will return to the VISAA D1 State championship game to defend their title after defeating Potomac School 35-0 on Saturday. The Titans will face cross city rivals Benedictine in a rematch of the 2022 title game. It will be the 4th meeting in past two years between the schools.

The Titans use big plays from the offense and a stingy defense that finished with seven sacks and two interceptions. Four of the five touchdowns covered 60-yards, 90-yards, 65-yards and 91 yards.

After a scoreless 1st quarter, junior running back Trey Grant finished a 5-play drive with a 3-yard touchdown plunge with 10:06 to go in the 2nd quarter. Grant carried the ball four times for 53 yards on the scoring drive. The next time Trinity Episcopal had the football, Navy commit Trai Ferguson turned the corner and ran away from the Panthers defenders for a 60-yad touchdown run to extend the lead to 14-0 after the extra point.

The Potomac School was in position to score before the half after driving 54 yards down to the Titans 13-yard line (with the help of a fake punt). However Old Dominion commit Mario Thompson (pictured below) jumped pass and returned it 90 yards for a pick six. The Titans led 21-0 and seemed to deflate the Panthers momentum heading into halftime.

Sophomore Isaiah Robinson and freshman Davion Brown both turned short screen passes into long touchdown receptions. Robinson broke a couple tackles on his 65-yard touchdown reception and Brown shook two defenders to score a 91-yard touchdown.

Meanwhile William & Mary commit linebacker Elijah Rainer was the defensive leader with several tackles, a sack and tackles for losses. VMI commit Robbie Dunn had three sacks and his last one put Potomac School sophomore quarterback Camren Boykin out of the game midway thru the 3rd quarter. The Panthers were forced to run the football the remainder of the game.
