#10 Tunstall Trojans @ #7 Monticello Mustangs

Thoughts and predictions on this game? I know Tunstall has a stout defense. They've been great since giving up 50+ points to Magna Vista. The Trojans has 2 shutouts and only gave up 21 points to GW Danville (GW's season low). I know their offense has been stagnate at times but they're getting it together at the right time. I don't know anything about Monticello but I know they can score.

Monticello was expected to be an elite team this year but thus far they have not lived up to expectations.
I still believe they beat Tunstall by 2-3 scores.

I have only seen them once and it was last week against Louisa and that may not be the best one to judge as Louisa didn't have much of a threat in the passing game so Monticello loaded the box defensively, but they have some pretty good athletes on the team. Their QB is young but he has a good arm and made some really good throws as well a some really good reads and decisions. #2 Koonce is their best back, and Louisa had a tough time tackling him. Monticello kept running this counter type play out of the shotgun where they fake the handoff to either the slot guy or the rb, quarterback spins around, hands it to a guy which ever guy he didn't fake to (slot or rb) and louisa had a lot of trouble stopping it. If they play like they did last week, then they will be a tough game for anyone they face. Most people feel that the mustangs actually underachieved in the regular season, but its a new season now and eveyone is 0-0, anything can happen.

You are right HR6, I love their facility. Also, was impressed with the fact that the referee has a mic and announces the penalty across the loudspeaker. It's a good place to see a game.

Louisa was the first in the area to start doing that, just another reason for you to visit.

I was at the game last year. Didn't hear it. But it is also the only venue I wear my ear protection at.so I don't have to hear the announcer.

Anyway, very innovative. Good for the Lions.

Tunstall has a stout defense and I believe their defense can hold Monticello to a minimum. Monticello has not faced a player all year as physical as Ashworth. He will give them problems all night long.

If you mean Caleb Ashworth, I saw his Hudl highlights and he's very good but Tunstall will need more than him to even slow down Monticello. Koonce is the best tailback in 3A and he didn't get a chance to show off in the playoffs last year due to injury. He has another good back to complement him in Darian Bates. Their freshman QB Kevin Jarrell will make his third start and he makes great passes under pressure. Every guy on their gigantic offensive line can match up with Ashworth.

Now if you want to talk about running backs, check out that stud at Magna Vista. JACQUEZ HAIRSTON is a man!!! No disrepect to Koonce but the best back in 3A is Hairston by a LANDSLIDE!!!!!!!

From watching his highlights I think he's faster than Koonce, but those defenses are just atrocious! Hard to evaluate his tackle-breaking ability when no one's touching him. I still put Koonce over him for now, but he's just a junior. Koonce was faster last year until his broken leg, and has been maybe a tad slower since.

Who has tunstall beat this year besides Dan river looking at there schedule they haven't beaten anybody rustburg scrimmage the mustangs the last two seasons and it hasnt been pretty for them

Agreed! Ashworth is hell for anybody. He gave GW problems all night and he's arguably one of the best defensive players in Virginia in ALL CLASSAFACTIONS. Also Damarcus Wimbush #24 for Tunstall is pretty tough too. He's undersized but he's quick and can get to the ball. If Tunstall can put together some offense I think they're as tough as anybody. They're a different team that lost to MV and Rustburg after watching them play GW.

If Tunstall lets Koonce do what Hairston did to them then it'll be a long bus drive back. Jacq had right at 300 yards rushing against Tunstall
