12 or 16?

I agree 100% both east and west should play same format. I don't know what happened that the west did not implement the same format. But it had to be the member schools AD and or principals who made the decision to change, or in this situation not make a change. They either did not think it through or did not think the east having less games and a buy would be an advantage. Does anyone know if the east and west communicate with each other in these matters? Is it possible the west did not know what the east was doing?

I remember the days when folks were crying because their 9-1 ,8-2, or 7-3 teams did not get in the playoffs. I also remember when schools with 175 students played schools with 700 students in the same districts with no allowances given for school size. My goodness, leave the current system alone, and give all these kids a chance of their dream to come true. If you don't like the system, don't go to the games, or move to another state.

I love this set up so what a team has to travel and most likely going to get steam rolled, the kids don't mind and the coaches get to coach them another week. Its the upper classes that don't like it, but teams make playoffs that didn't before, take Highland Springs - Carina when they used to play last game of season you won or you went home and with one loss that's crazy.

While I don't know the rationale behind the reason to switch to 12 teams (I suspect I know why), the East Region powers that be did an extremely poor job of publicizing this move.

Earlier today I posted a comment in which I said that I did not really mind there being 12 teams instead of the 16 that we had gotten used to. But it occurred to me that, even with just 12, the playoffs will still be a five-week affair including the state championship weekend. So if they are going to have a five-week system anyway, then there might as well be 16 teams playing on that first weekend instead of just 12.

VHSL should not grant authority down to regions to do what they want.

Like I said before, giving regions autonomy in some regard was a concession they had to make or there would have been zero change. It's called politics and compromise. System is better than before, the VHSL would have loved to mandate it for every region, district, conference etc. but had to concede some items to regions, conferences, and districts b/c of individual local concerns. I guess the federal government should mandate every little item for every state.....

1A is a different animal than most.... you can't tell me you can look at this list and say there any team over 25 isn't going to get humiliated on the field vs. the top 8. Sometimes common sense goes a long way.

I would say there are only 4 maybe 5 teams with a realistic shot at the title. You might even be able to narrow it down to teams outside the top 16.

Probably easier to pick final 4 teams in 1A more than any other division.

But still, everyone should play by same rules.

Are these the actual vhsl power rating points? Galax right now would be a 9 seed in the west, u think Radford would want to play them in the second round.

There is a huge difference between a 8-9 seed and a 14-15-16 (in 1a)

Like I said look at the chart and who ranked 25 or greater wont get beat by 30+ and more than likely 50+

I have seen 12 seeds beat 5's in 1A. I don't have a problem with 12 in 1a west but in 2a west I would like it to stay at 16. The old region days , in region C when they just took four- usually left 2 super teams out like Giles or Radford. That was when district champs received the first spots though. Region C switched to six while region D stayed at 4.

1A is the only division I'd say 12 on a side....
2A I could go either way
3A and above definitely not 16 on a side
