1a Game of The Week

I dont know about these teams being talked about, but one point I will comment on. Last year meaning nothing or something, I believe Riverheads beat East Rockingham by 21 points last year (dont quote me on that), Riverheads was supposed to be better this year, even though I disagree, and lost 28-0 this year. It obviously wasnt a coaching problem at RH. So last year really meant nothing in that matchup.

Sometimes it's just a matter of teams progressing more than expected or finally putting it all together.

Good luck to both teams and I hope for no injuries and a good game for those watching

Region A is wide open and ready for the taking.

This thread had turned into those for and against Northumberland. However, it wouldn't surprise me to see any of about 6 teams come out on top of region A. We will know a lot more once the Neck teams start playing eachother. With some rough math and loose predictions, one of these teams will be left out at the end as far as getting into the playoffs. Any of the first 6 could make some noise.

Essex, Franklin, West Point, Northumberland, Rappahannock, colonial beach, Sussex Central, Northampton, Washington and Lee.

Should be fun down the stretch.

Thanks Gunz41 for your input. I completely understand what you are saying. However, there are always exceptions to every rule.

Also, there are many lessons from history including sports history. Such as always look for the trap game - history and current events always clue you in on which one it is - hence the term classic trap game. It happens in all sports and you must prepare the players for it.

In the Riverheads contest you mentioned, Riverheads was way overconfident from its past history, the game was away against a program that was already known to have improved significantly, ranked high in the top 10 for 2A...

Plus, RH usually drops a game against the top 2A teams almost every year - just like Stuart's Draft recent win. So the Riverheads staff should have seen this possibility coming. I am sure they did - but it does not always impact your players (plus East Rock has it got it going on this year).

Anyway, this school of thought and how it impacts sports is why I enjoy sports and trying to figure it out. Not everyone's cup of tea.

East Rockingham was better than Riverheads, I said it before the game. Stuarts Draft was better than Riverheads. These weren't trap games, it was just a team being better. But this isnt about them.

The teams you are talking about may have the same outcome as before, but that really has nothing to do with past teams IMO. To say it does is short changing the team you are raving about.

We will have to agree to disagree on that. The only way to improve is to learn from your mistakes. Coach Lewis and his staff and players have implemented many changes that they learned from looking at the mistakes from past history.

To change a team's future history you must learn from the past - and having some great talent helps a lot too, of course. :)

Of course you can learn, but the opponent can too, and just because you won last year doesn't mean you will this year.

My point is, just because a team whipped up on someone last year doesnt give that team those points from the year before. It starts out 0-0, and both have the same chance to win, regardless of the previous outcome. To think otherwise is not giving full credit to the players on this years team who is putting in all the work to be the better team.

I can’t wait to see the impression of y’all if they win all the ones y’all say they lose, if we wanna go by last year Northumberland, they were not driven, they had talent but they never had that spark to make them do better, but this year team Northumberland has that drive, determination, and will to give it all they got because of reading all y’alls comments, “saying they don’t have an o-line” they are working just a hard as they ever be, now that their coach told them all to prove y’all wrong. Also, saying that “all they have is Delvin Palmer” since y’all say this it makes the whole team want to be a delvin palmer. Delvin Palmer is a very big boost for the team, he has heart, and confidence, potentially D1 level. But he is not the only one that makes the whole team Northumberland has a strong QB now, Nice RB’s (Keon Redmond and Jerquist Morris), good wideouts(Collin Saunders) and on Defense they have a kid on line (Caleb Davis) nobody has talked about and has already has around 37 tackles and 9 sacks (might be agaisnt some not so well teams, but can’t take that away from the kid). The point is y’all are just boosting them up and making them practice and want it even more harder.

How about Fort Chiswell @ Auburn for game of the week I should be a close game that Idk who to pick to win

Any decent team looks good playing teams like Surry and Middlesex. We will find out about Nland in the next couple of weeks.

What? You are kidding me? I was under the impression that if one could defeat teams like Surry and Middlesex it meant that one could beat 2A Goochland and crush 4A Dinwiddie too.

Oh man- I was basing all my thoughts on those two games. Oh well....I guess NHS will get crushed the rest of the season.
