VHSL REGION 2-A EAST NEWS: Bluestone defeats Greensville 64-62; Barons vs George Mason for Region 2-A East Championship Title
Down 62-55 and with 1:38 left in regulation, Bluestone’s Keith Patrick scored seven straight points to knot the score at 62-62. And with mere tenths of a second left in regulation, teammate Raquan Canada scored to secure the 64-62 win over the Greensville County Eagles tonight in Skipwith.
The win propelled Bluestone into the Region 2-A East Championship game on Saturday at Orange County High School. The Barons will square off against George Mason High School at 8pm. The Mustangs, out of Falls Church are a member of the Bull Run District, Conference 35 and were the No. 1 seed from their conference.
The Barons were down 16-14 at the first period and Greensville went to halftime up 27-26.
Bluestone made a blistering run in the third to take a 52-46 lead into the final period.
Greensville opened the fourth with a trey and then went on a 10-1 run to make the score 59-53.
With the score tied at 62-62 and 22-seconds left on the clock, Greensville had an opportunity to end the game with the final shot.
Great defense by Bluestone resulted in a backcourt violation against Greensville. One of two costly turnovers, with under two minutes left in regulation that put Greensville with its back up against the wall.
With 8.3 seconds left Bluestone brought the ball down the length of the court. Canada scored the winning basket after he grab the ball off of a blocked shot, put the ball up under the goal, missed, got his own rebound and got the ball back up and out of his hands before time expired.
Patrick's seven-point run at the end of the game took him to 1000 career points scored.
