Clarke County and Buffalo Gap are through and the Bison made a statement, but we knew Greensville had probably advanced beyond their abilities.

I think the champ, however, will come from tomorrow's games. I wish I could see both games. They should be great.

Are you willing to go on a limb and say from which of tomorrow's game the champ will come?

I would be very surprised if the eventual champion isn't from the West. Gap can not defend the pass. If this is Clarke's year, I'll eat my hat.

If Gap can't defend the pass then they will struggle against Union, Richlands, or Appomattox. They all throw the ball well. Not to say that Glenvar doesn't throw it well but they are run majority of the time

My analysis says the same. But....Union DID beat Richlands head to head and Glenvar is the defending champs that swept a very good Giles team.
I agree and frankly I would not be surprised with Union or Glenvar winning it either. I just went with my gut and Gilliam's numbers, lol. If I am betting money I am playing odds and Richlands is a 4/1 favorite to win it and Appo is even money 1/1. Of course these are all hypothetical numbers and in no way should be used for gambling, lol.

Glenvar is just going to get you into a smash mouth, clogged up defensive battle. I like that. If anybody plays chess, their football games kind of go the way of a game opening with the Queen's Pawn.

I'm really not. I have like Appomattox all year, but Richlands is well Richlands, and like you say Union did beat them. Then you throw in that you've got the defending champions still playing pretty great football. However, my computer has had Appomattox and Richlands at 1 and 2 for a long time now.

I like your ratings Gilliam. Thanks for doing these all season.

This is exactly why I like Glenvar's chances. The other teams have scored a ton of points and they look very good on paper but I'll take my chances with the better defense especially since Glenvar can put points on the board.

A good passing team can beat Glenvar I think. It is harder to defend entire field than it is to plug up middle of field against the run. Most high school teams cannot play good defense against a good passing team.

Glenvar isn't most teams. Usually when the trophies are handed out it's not a team with a high powered air attack getting them. It's usually a team with a lock down defense. I'm not saying I think Glenvar will win this, but if they lose, I don't think it will be because of their pass defense.

Hate to bump an old thread, but Glenvar did lose because of their pass defense lol

Hard to beat Union without good pass defense. Union has 3 best WRs I have ever seen on one team.

Very tough, but if you pull four guys out of the box and only have 5-6 guys near the LOS, Union is capable of running the ball. Union is a better passing team, but can run when needed.

This is where the coaching and schemes come into play. Defenses like to hide things and deceive as well. Just depends on which team does it better.

Union ran ball on Gretna first 2 possessions, right up middle. I think shortest gain was 5 yards, until Gretna got a couple stops inside 5 before Union scored.

Unions first TD against Glenvar was a 75 yard run by the QB. Union is capable of running the ball, but does more damage with the pass. Union likes to use the run to set up the pass.

Glenvar couldnt stop the short pass/bubble screen but had the wing all figured out with giles. Union had absolutely no clue on the wing. Funny how it works out with the matchups. If i were appo i would take a long look at the giles glenvar playoff game and do the same thing glenvar did.

This is why I was rooting for Glenvar over Giles. I knew that Union matched up better with Glenvar than Giles. And Glenvar would have matched up MUCH better with Clarke than Union did.
It really is all about match ups.

You guys are saying what I said a few weeks back....glenvar had Giles number...if not I truly believe giles could still be there...that being said if Glenvar had their kicking game going they might very well be there...they stopped our single wing well but clark runs it differently but same principles...been nice to see to single wing teams go at it....like I said...top six coulda been there...all about match ups and execution....turnovers and special teams can kill ya

You could make the same argument and say Clarke didn't matchup with Union. I think more than certain matchups, turnovers are a greater factor. IMO

Some of us talked about the possibility of a Giles/Clarke game. Would be interesting for sure!
