Gretna scrimmaged Glenvar in pre season. We hung with them. score was 20-14 I think. Granted it was a scrimmage.

There are basically 2 likely scenarios here.

1: Appo wins. If that happens, it will be 1. Appo, 2. Union, 3. Glenvar, 4. Richlands. Appo and Union may flip as they can actually tie each other.

2: Appo loses. If this happens and Union, Graham, Virginia High, Bluefield, and Abingdon win, it will look like this. 1. Union, 2. Glenvar, 3. Richlands, 4. Appomattox.

So the top four are still to be determined yet.

I have maintained for years, that VHSL should not allow first round rematches from regular season. Tweak the seedings as necessary to prevent it.

Richlands has two very distinct roads that could play out there. If Appo wins, we would have likely 2nd and 3rd round matchups with Buckingham and either Appo/Union. However, if Appo was to lose, Richlands would be looking at Giles and Glenvar. Giles would be fun, given the ties to Mance. That also opens up the possibility that a 4th seeded Appo upsetting a top ranked Union, and a Richlands victory at Glenvar would give Richlands a home state semi game.

Just some fun possibilities to think about.

Still a LOT of football to be played. It's the most wonderful time of the year!

Actually would like Gretna to get Richlands first round. Never been to Big Blue Tornado country. Work with an old Richland alum and would like to visit there place and tradition. Honestly think we could be more competitive at Glenvar though.

I know we would love to have you guys up as well. We get tired of playing the same teams in the playoffs all the time. Lol. Before the switch to the new system, it was almost a guarantee that we would play Marion, Tunstall, Patrick, or Cave Spring every year in the playoffs and usually saw Brookville. Then the switch happened and we are still playing Marion and Gate City and Lebanon, etc....the same teams we play all the time. So going out to Wilson Memorial last year was fun.

I'd love to have the Hawks come to Ernie. It could very well happen.

You are right. I was still thinking of Dan River only playing Magna Vista. And you are correct I still had Patrick with one win.

Playing same teams in playoffs every year sucks. Back when Gretna was last in the hunt for state championships, it seemed as if we played Buckingham every season. I like to play teams that we've never seen or heard of before.
