VHSL Ratings are out this morning and this is how the playoffs would look after six weeks...

#8 Petersburg at #1 Hopewell
#7 Booker T. Washington at #2 York
#6 Park View-South Hill at #3 Phoebus
#5 Lafayette at #4 IC Norcom

Near suicidal. The way it looks for my Lafayette they will need to play excellent I.C. Norcom in round 1 (home or away based on final points), then away at Hopewell and then away at probably Phoebus. I wouldn’t want to see the Vegas odds on that 3-0. That’s more difficult than any regional run I have ever seen. I elect to petition to move back to 4A tomorrow!

What's crazy is that with one loss Phoebus can still capture that top seed over an unbeaten team because we still have one more game to play than everyone else with the makeup game against Class 5 Menchville in the final week. Then there's a tough home date against, a more than likely, undefeated Class 5 Woodside in a couple of weeks. Currently we're tied with York based on power points and with a win against Woodside that could trump a York win over a possibly undefeated Class 4 Warhill. So anything is possible. It'll be very interesting down the stretch.

It is very interesting. We play Warhill in our last game. I’m hoping for a Warhill win against York for obvious reasons and Poquoson to keep winning. Hate to be 9-1 and not even get a home game.

That's not how it works. You aren't playing an extra game over everyone else. All of 3a (besides Booker T and Colonial Heights has had their BYE), so the rest have 5 games left. It really just changed your Open week.

That isn't to say you can't/won't be 1st seed. Its just that your justification of the extra game is incorrect. And even if that were the case it goes by Average, not total points.

For reference, BT has 105 points at present and is in 7th place. Park View in 6th has 91 points

I think you may have misunderstood my point. I am saying that being that Menchville is a Class 5 school that makeup game could be the difference. Unlike most Class 3 teams that play in districts that don't have as many Class 4 and 5 schools. Being that Phoebus is the only Class 3 school in the Peninsula District, that's the advantage that they have over most other Class 3 schools. Think about it Lafayette is 5-1 and York is 6-0 but Phoebus at 4-1 already leads Lafayette in power points and is tied with York in points at the 2 seed. I would imagine Phoebus playing their makeup game in which no else plays will help them. A win over an undefeated Woodside would definitely put Phoebus over.

I don’t see an advantage for Phoebus. Hopewell 5-0 currently as Phoebus is 4-1. The games Hopewell have left are Petersburg( 3a), Dinwiddie(4a), Meadowbrook(5a), Prince George(5a), Matoaca(5a). I don’t like to count my chickens before they are hatched so to speak, but Hopewell will more than likely finish 10-0, and with that remaining schedule they will have the 1 seed. With a schedule that consisted of 4-3a wins (including Norcom), 1-4a win, 4- 5a wins and 1-6a win (will be a 8 win Thomas Dale). Beating an undefeated 5 school wouldn’t point Phoebus over Hopewell.

I see Hopewell as almost a lock on the #1 seed. I also don’t see beating Menchville who might end up with 4 wins as decisive. Too early for a call on 2-5. Norcom plays 3 very tough games and could lose 2 or 3 of those, York still has to play Warhill and the rest of their schedule is light on points, Lafayette still has to play Poquoson who will have a winning record and the last game with a potential undefeated class 4 Warhill and had a win over Goochland who most likely will go 9-1. Hard to predict.

I agree with that. Maybe its just the way you wrote it. "Because we still have one more game to play than anyone else..."

Ohhh, I see. I wasn't aware that Matoaca and Prince George were Class 5. That makes a big difference. More than likely Hopewell will be that #1 overall seed and deserves it.

That Menchville makeup game will help because beating a 4 win Class 5A will be equivalent if not more than a 7 win Poquoson of Class 2A. Not to mention Phoebus beating an unbeaten Class 5 Woodside trumps beating an undefeated Class 4A Warhill. Either way, we should've handled our business against Lake Taylor in that first game and we may not be having this discussion. Poquoson and Goochland are great wins no doubt but as far as points are concerned, Phoebus has no Class 3A or 2A teams on the schedule and will benefit from playing the larger enrollments of the PD.

Remember that under VHSL rules 2 bonus points are awarded to a higher classification team playing a lower classification team. Therefore class 2 Poquoson and Bruton are treated as playing a class 3 team for class 3 Lafayette. If you play up you get the extra points. Lafayette plays no class 5 teams but 4 class 4 teams. These calculations are always close every year!
Ps- my thanks to the PD district this year. Their 0-3 in their play with Bay Rivers which gives us a few more points.
