Great question. Hanover was the #1 seed in 2015 and won it. Dinwiddie was a #1 seed and won it in 2016. Dinwiddie 2017 (No), Monacan 2018 (No), Louisa 2019 (No), 2021 Spring Monacan (No), 2021 Dinwiddie (No).

Region Champs
2015 Hanover
2016 Dinwiddie
2017 Louisa
2018 Eastern View
2019 Patrick Henry
2021 Spring King George
2021 Fall Varina

To be honest, although there have been sound teams representing region b they have not been overly successful in the state semis (4-5). Since realignment in 2013, the teams from region b have advanced to the state final four times and won twice.

2013: Dinwiddie (B) defeated Sherando (C)
2014: Lake Taylor (A) defeated Salem (D)
2015: Salem (D) defeated Lake Taylor (A)
2016: Salem defeated Dinwiddie (B)
2017: Salem defeated Louisa (B)
2018: Woodgrove defeated Lake Taylor (A)
2019: Lake Taylor defeated Tuscarora (C)
2021 (Spring) Salem (D) defeated Lake Taylor (A)
2021 (Fall) Varina (A) defeated Broad Run (C)

State Championships by Region:
D = 4 (Salem all 4)
A= 2 (Lake Taylor 2)
B = 2 (Dinwiddie and Varina)
C = 1 (Woodgrove)

State Championship Finalist by Team
Salem (D) =5 (4-1)
Lake Taylor (A) =5 (2-3)
Dinwiddie (B) = 2 (1-1)
Varina (B) = 1 (1-0)
Woodgrove (C) 1 (1-0_
Sherando (C) 0-1
Broad Run (C) 0-1
Tuscaroroa (C) 0-1
Louisa (B) 0-1

Sate Championship Finals Appearances and records by Region:
D= 5 4-1
A= 5 2-3
B= 4 2-2
C= 4 1-3

The "Old West vs. East argument" (LOL)
West 5-4
East 4-5

more like Salem vs the field...
Yeah! You could look at it from a lot of ways, but I will give Salem credit and say they have defended their dynasty quite well. They deserve all the credit they get. Lake Taylor wasn't too shabby either. They lost twice to Dinwiddie's state final teams in the playoffs (2013 and 2016). Lafayette and Kings Fork are the only other teams to represent A in the state semi final. For whatever its worth Region C and Region B have much more parity.

Region C will be Tuscarora or Broad Run to lose. Broad Run is having a down yr this yr but will be back in the hunt moving forward. Since moving down from C5 one of these schools have won region C

Not since the conferences were disbanded and regions reestablished in 2017. @OCBoy if you remember in 2013 and 2014 8 teams from conference 20 and 8 teams from conference 19 made the playoffs. The teams were seeded and you traveled. I remember in 2014 we played back to back away games at Norcom and Lake Taylor. In 2015, you played teams in your conference until the quarterfinals then the highest seeded team in conference 19 (Lake Taylor) played at home against the lowest seed left in conference 20 (Hanover) and the highest seed from 20 (Courtland) played at home against the lowest remaining seed from 19 (Lafayette). The two winner faced off in the state semis. Lake Taylor defeated Courtland. Same thing happened in 2016 #1 Dinwiddie vs. #2 Lake Taylor and #2 Eastern View vs. #1 Lafayette. Semi final: Dinwiddie defeated Lafayette. You talk about tough sledding. I like the current format much better, I just wished we could switch the semi final matchups every year A vs. C, B vs. D, A vs. D, B vs. C, A vs. B, C vs. D.... It would make things a lot more interesting. Teams who scheduled OOD cupcakes ultimately lose power points, the higher seed and would travel. The regular season would surely mean a lot more.
