Who are the contenders?

I think Amherst makes the biggest jump. They’ll be as talented as anyone in the region but can they finally get back to winning consistently?

Salem will be good and the favorite to win the region.

Glass and Louisa bring back the most experience. Glass is going to be very good and George White should contend for Class 4 state player of the year but don’t count out Louisa’s Landon Wilson if the Lions can make a deep playoff run.

Danville will be very young but will have some of the better skill guys in the region. Defense much improved and very fast.

Halifax is a sleeper with Senseney but plays a very soft schedule. Won’t know anything about them until they play GW and the region playoffs.

Western… Just can’t compete with the speed from teams like Glass, GW, Amherst…

Orange always have some of the better looking athletes around but like Danville, just can’t put it all together.

Pulaski County… Who knows??? Dixon on medical leave of absence (hope he’s getting better and is okay) but they return some solid players. Should be better than they were last year?

1.) Salem
2.) Glass
3.) GW
4.) Amherst County
5.) Louisa County
6.) Pulaski County
7.) Western
8) Halifax
9.) Orange
10.) JF
11.) Mecklenburg (could make the playoffs based off of easy schedule).

Not 4D but…
Hearing big things out of @one man and his Black Knights. They’ll have one of their better teams in a while this year. Will make some noise in Class 3.

I think you forgot Pulaski? I don't think they'll be in the upper half, but I think they'll probably be somewhere near the playoff line.

Salem - I don’t have to say anything
Glass - just depends on their lines, they are loaded at skill positions. George White is the real deal at Qb
Louisa - Landon Wilson, Spellman and Brooks
GW - they always have the guys.

everybody else
Saw Amherst at 7 on 7 Tuesday. They have athletes, but I’m not a believer.

Amherst hasn't beaten a team with a pulse (for the sake of being arbitrary let's define "pulse" as .500 or better) since 2017.

Same can be said about my GW Eagles. See a lot of Amherst doubters.. When those guys are good, they are contenders. The Bob Christmas train has slowed down but this is year 3 or 4? Very good looking athletes coming up to varsity this year.

The difference is that GW plays in the Piedmont and Amherst plays in the Seminole. If Amherst was in the Piedmont they would finish top 3 every year with GW and Bassett. They're not the same Amherst from 10-15 years ago. Amherst will finish in the bottom half of the district and Region as long as Bradley, Rocco, and Woody are still coaching in the Seminole.

I agree on how difficult it is to finish in the upper half of the Seminole. Glass should be a little better this year, Heritage, LCA, and Brookville are probably just a step behind them. Amherst shouldn't have too much trouble with JF, Rustburg, and Liberty, but I'd honestly be surprised if they finished in the top 3 of the SD. Of course, I've been wrong before, and I don't have any more info than any of you, so grain of salt.

Eh maybe but that’s a pretty bold and blanket statement to make. Wouldn’t be too dissimilar to saying that Glass will never win region D so long as Salem is in it. Both statements seem pretty reasonable given the last 3 to 5 years but teams change and the Seminole gets mixed up more than people realize (ex: ~3 years ago LCA was getting wrecked in the Seminole, then things changed, including but of course not limited to getting a couple key transfers, and they’ve been in the mix ever since).

Likewise. I think the Seminole is a toss up between the top 4 teams this year. Glass has a lot of talent at the skill positions. Will their OL/DL good enough? HHS and LCA lost a lot of production at the skill positions but both have most of their OL/DL returning and both have outstanding coaches that will make them a contender in the Seminole. Brookville has a bunch of OL/DL returning too plus a few key skill guys. They will be better than what people might think.

Seminole is always a fun district to watch as an outsider, lots of parity to be found. Definitely the least predictable district west of Richmond, I'd think.

Brookville has one of the best QB in the SD returning. He was the 2021 OPOY. Good arm and good touch.

GW gets Dinwiddie, Glass and Amherst in a 3 week span so we’ll see how good they are. Really impressed with the sophomore Cabell kid at QB and Kemori Dixon who is a hybrid between Tim Glass & Malik Clements. Danville is in good hands.
