The Albemarle Patriots enjoyed one of their finest seasons in school history on the hardwood in 2015-16 when they defeated Hampton and reached the Group 5A State Tournament Final Four.

Returning their top two scorers and rebounders in Austin Katstra and Jake Hahn (pictured above), expectations are high for the Patriots as they seek their first state title next winter.

Participating in the Paul Webb Team Camp at Randolph-Macon College, Albemarle posted a 8-2 record, culminating in a Championship. The Patriots managed to pull it off without Kastra, who was unavailable due to a scheduling conflict while playing in college elite camps.

Leading the way for Albemarle was Hahn, a 6-foot-6 forward that was outstanding all week long, including in their Championship victory over John Champe. They beat another one of the better teams in Northern Virginia in George Marshall in the semifinals. Champe ousted W.T. Woodson, which was undefeated and had beaten the Knights by 12 the day before, in the other semifinal.

To go with Hahn, rising juniors J'Quan Anderson, Na'il Arnold, Cartier Key and Maxx Jarmon all stepped up and showed signs of promise in what should be increased roles next season. Anderson, a 5-foot-10 guard, saw the most amount of floor time of that quartet last year, playing 34 minutes off the bench in two State Playoff games.

Albemarle, which before last season had only reached the State Final Four one time before back in 1966, graduated three starters in Kennedy Brown, Myles Adams-Yates and Grant Kersey.
