Another thing I noticed about the smaller school Tunstall they had a freshman pitching last night. I'm pretty sure he is a pretty good freshman, but SHS don't have to depend on freshman to get the job done on the mound or in any position. Their freshman have time to groom a little on JV. Yes players like Smallwood, Carney, and Reid played as freshman on Varsity, but didn't have to be the man as freshmen. Players like Loudon and Whitacre had a chance to play JV for a year before moving up. As a matter of fact I think Loudon stayed down on JV for 2 years so he could pitch. So with smaller schools you tend to have to move younger players up sooner. I believe keeping players down for a year or two is better, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do.
