Tunstall 851 enrollment

Sherando 1438 enrollment

Best of luck to all !

Figure this

Why does someone insist on bringing up Sherando's enrollment? I guess you would have loved the VHSL to have a split and water in down with D4 and D3 champs in this sport, right?

The best nine will win on Sunday. Who cares about enrollment here? Really?!

Re: Figure this

I guess it matters which side of the enrollment figures you are on. If you are bigger then who cares. If you are smaller, some how it just doesn't seem right.

Re: nm

Hate to ruffle some feathers, but it's the norm now in this area that Sherando has always been AAA size. So if you are from this area no big deal, you are use to it. If you are not from this area it's a head scratcher. For those who say it does not matter, it does. A bigger pool gives you more choices of good players.

Nevertheless I'm rooting for Pepper and the Warriors to bring home the trophy to the Winchester/Frederick County/Stephens City area!

Re: Figure this

Another thing I noticed about the smaller school Tunstall they had a freshman pitching last night. I'm pretty sure he is a pretty good freshman, but SHS don't have to depend on freshman to get the job done on the mound or in any position. Their freshman have time to groom a little on JV. Yes players like Smallwood, Carney, and Reid played as freshman on Varsity, but didn't have to be the man as freshmen. Players like Loudon and Whitacre had a chance to play JV for a year before moving up. As a matter of fact I think Loudon stayed down on JV for 2 years so he could pitch. So with smaller schools you tend to have to move younger players up sooner. I believe keeping players down for a year or two is better, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

Re: Figure this

both true and false.

Give me 600 more students, and I believe I could find or develop 3 or 4 good baseball players. maybe even a pitcher or 2.

A schools Sherando's size probably should not be playing AA. Hopefully the new format will prevent big schools from playing small schools in state title games.

Re: Figure this

ok then, I guess then Amherst shouldn't be AA also, they have more students than Sherando!. And Sherando beat them the day before Tunstall. Sherando is the AA division 4 baseball champion, and Tunstall can be the division 3 champion . Hows that? make you feel better? I wonder if Amherst would have beat Tunstall would be whining about the same thing.

Re: Figure this

Sherando deserved that State game. If Amherst would have beat Tunstall he would say the same thing. Amherst has had to defend that argument for a long time now. It was not like Sherando killed Tunstall, it was close. Like I have said before the VHSL set those cut off of students, they were playing where they were supposed to.

Re: Figure this (from wikki)

Sherando might not have "killed" (wikki-speak) Tunstall, but all they needed was to have one more run than the other team.

Guess that's "cliche" too, but it works.

You also had to think some longtime Sherando followers enjoyed beating Amherst in some form of athletic competition after those two not-so-close football games with the Lancers in years past. You know, when they got "killed." LOL.
